Texting from Mexico to the UK (uses 4 of your text allowance on o2)

Just called o2 to find out about texting exting from Mexico to the UK and costs involved and have been told that it uses 4 of your text allowance on o2 and you can recieve texts for free - that's pretty good if you have alot of texts (like i usually have)
All I plan to do is turn off my voicemail before I leave the UK and also not take any incoming calls.
Don't tend to use my phone alot abroad but it's good to have for emergencies etc...
Anyone else used this successfully from Mexico?

Thats pretty good, does that include simplicity 20 as well? Also how much does it cost to txt abroad?0

I'm not sure what simplicity 20 is, maybe someone else knows? I think texting abroad usually costs more but if you're already abroad and want to text home, if it's only using 4 texts from your allowance that's really handy.
Has anyone on o2 been to Mexico and tried this successfully? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Yes thanks summer01 good idea to turn voicemail off. Have a good trip.0

That 4 for 1 text arrangement applies universally. I haven't been to Mexico but have used it from elsewhere.0

Be careful if you have an "unlimited text" bolt on through a third party i.e. Mobiles.co.uk. The 4-1 does not apply unless you have a named mumber of free texts.0

bobstheboy, no bolts on just the text allowance so hopefully I'll be ok. Also o2 checked this for me so fingers crossed I'll have no problems..!This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Thats true, SMS from any country back to a UK mobile number is charged at a 4:1 ratio from your tariff allowance.
However, if you're on one of the 24month Bonus tariffs that have 100mins and Unlt SMS you will be charged, as those tariffs don't include SMS allowance, they just have the unlimited bolton.0 -

My experience of mobilr phones and Mexico was back in 2001 and 02 phone didn;t work then.
One point to be aware of, even if you on contract, whether thats phone or sim only plan, texts from abroad do not come out of your monthly allowance they are chargable.
May be worth looking into getting a sim for travel card, I know theres a company that use to be on Quidco, like a pay and go, top up b4 hand, and the texts and calls will be a lot cheaper and your know where you are, you don't want to come back with an expenise bill.....xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -

This is incorrect, as other replies show - inclusive texts are used up at 4 for 1.
Sim4travel is no cheaper at all than using O2 with its ITS option, which is 120p a minute to call, 85p receive, no daily use fees.
Other global SIMs might be worth looking at, some of which seem to have free incoming calls there and could be diverted to from O2's inclusive minutes, but the OP implied few calls would be made. I can add more if required after all0
