  • Quorn pieces are good in risottos, stirfrys and currys, but I didn't realise that they were manmade! Beanburgers are nice. Quorn cottage pie or lasagne. We very rarely eat meat, and then it's usually chicken.

Thanks verynewmoneysaver...do you have a recipe for Beanburgers please?..I do fancy using more quorn as this would keep most of my recipes the same(spag bol, chilli, etc)and solve the "substitute the meat" problem,I think its often on special offer too.
Maybe ive interpreted this wrong, but this is why i got the idea that it was "manmade2,this was from the Quorn website. http://www.mycoprotein.org/what_is_mycoprotein/mycoprotein_story.html

PS,Can quorn be cooked in the slow cooker?
Think if i do use Quorn i will stick to basic Quorn mince,as some of their other products (meatball type etc)contain Palm oil,not good for us or the environment)

  • Boyfriend is a pescetarian so we cook lots of veggie stuff. In my opinion Quorn mince is great, unlike some own brands it keeps its texture well and does not swell and go mushy when cooking in sauce. I don't tend to buy their chicken substitute as I do not like it, Tesco own brand chicken style fillets taste nicer and have a better texture in my opinion. But yes it is very man made and this can put some people off.
To pasta and tomato sauce why not add some oven roasted veg, such as peppers, cherry tomatoes and onions? You could also add mushrooms and tinned sweetcorn. Topping with a bit of cheddar is always a winner in my opinion.
Here is the O/S complete veggie recipe collection:

It includes my recipe for leek and blue cheese crumble, more of a winter dinner but still yummy!

dip pattys in to bread and shape
2 tins of mackrel tesco own

No problem :), he eats eggs and fish but not meat. As fish can be expensive we tend to mostly eat veggie stuff.

We're carnivores but over half our meals now are veggie.

We have spaghetti with a homemade tomato sauce at least once a week and we don't miss the meat, sometimes I'll make garlic bread to make it a bit more filling. Jacket spuds with beans, poached eggs with beans and homemade chunky wedges, pizza with salad, omelettes etc.

I'm not very good at succinct. Why say something in 10 words when 100 will do?

  • If you go to Holland and Barratt you can pick up bags of TVP Mince and chunks for £1.19 each for quite a big bag.
I just add a curry sauce or tomato sauce and my carnivores don't know the difference we also have a soup day - HM soup (mushroom is the favourite) with HM Granary Bread
Beans on toast with a sprinkling of cheese
    Omlettes
    Frittata's
    Pizza
    Quiche
Cheese and onion or Cheese and potato pie
Veggie Cheesecake - use crackers and melted butter to make the base, then make as you would a sweet one leaving out the sugar and add peppers sweetcorn and mushrooms to the mix, spread over the cracker base and bake in the oven for about 45 mins

Brilliant ideas, thanks guys...well ive changed my mind again..im now thinking of something to do with tinned tuna,i have around 5 large tins in the cupboard,so it looks like tuna burgers(but got no rolls in),or Kazzys51's fishcaked with tuna instead of mackeral..Hhmm...its good feeling motivated into cooking something different for a change..right now,im thinking the fishcakes with homemade wedgies +salad, ive loads of home grown mixed leaves ready for picking, plus a couple of wee ripened cherry tomatoes..right thats it,Decision made..Tuna fish cakes, with tattie wedgies and salad...will let you know how it goes :)
