Hi everyone,
I sold a mobile phone last week for £250 on ebay. The person who won was someone who had only had an account for one day. The day after they had won they closed their account without paying and ebay refunded my final val fee. So i relisted.. Now this person has emailed me the following;
Hello seller was your weekend?you great,Well.......am very sorry for my late respond
due to some little problems, please i want you to get back to me as soon as possible regarding the payment for your item and the international postage price.
Thank you and God bless you.
So i kindly pointed out that i could no longer sell the phone to them. they then sent this today;
Hello Friend, am very sorry for the late response due to some personal problem.....Just to let you know that the payment has been made via paypal plus the funds is already out of my account awaiting to be credited in your account as soon as paypal confirm the shipping number from you so kindly proceed with the shipment to the address given to you in Nigeria via Royalmail International Signed for Today and get back to paypal with the shipping number in order to release the money in your account cos am purchasing the item for my business partner as a gift and i promise to leave a good feedback after the end of the transaction.
and included an address in Nigeria when their details say they are based in Devon??!
Am i obliged to sell this to them now when they are no longer registered? and are they saying i have to send it and then i will recieve the money as I am sure Paypal does not work this way. Is someone trying to scam me, what should I do? I have already relisted and it has bids. Thanks guys

I'm no expert but it all shouts SCAM to me - If you need advice contact Ebay, I've used their live help and always found them very good.Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!0

Ignore it. The payment wont arrive its a scam. make sure on your relist you set to exclude those from bidding in countries you don't send to (set it as uk only) also only let those bid who have a credit card on file. That gets rid of most of the scammers0

Tell them in your best Chinglish to sod off.
For your currently running auction:
Never send anything until you've been paid, and can actually see the money in your Paypal account (don't just rely on the email, actually log in and look). Secondly, if you do send it (which I'd strongly advise against, as you can tell by my opening line) only send to the Paypal address, and then send it by Parcel Force, Special Delivery or similar. For a £250 item, a signature is essential, and normal Recorded delivery won't cut it, you'll only get £39 back if it goes missing.
Finally, I'd recommend blocking people from countries like Nigeria. It wouldn't have stopped this scammer though, if he's registered in Devon :rolleyes:Back on MSE after a 5 year hiatus.

First, don't panic
No you're not obliged to send it. since ebay refunded you.
I'm sure it's a scammer.
either you will be sent too much money and asked to send a cheque for the difference and the money they originally sent will bounce, or you'll be sent fake funds or something similar.
If you feel you must send something to Nigeria, have google for 419 baiter, which should give you some ideas. My favourite is a housebrick wrapped up with a customs declaration for $1,000,0000 -
thanks guys, as i thought. i think i will ignore it. just a bit worried as this is my business account as well and dont like the thought that people might want to ruin my other listings. i have changed the new listing to exclude overseas bidders. should i report it to ebay just to be on the safe side?taken on second job + £160 per month

Don't EVER send anything to Nigeria or Indonesia under any circumstances.
Don't ever allow anyone to collect using their own courier. The address might state the UK, but they can ring the courier and arrange a new address for delivery.0 -
In general, never send a phone outside the UK, and always make sure it's insured up to the amount you sold it for.
I would play along with the scam, thanking them for their "payment", and saying you've shipped the phone to the Devon address as stated on their paypal accountShould've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

No, do not send out the item, this person is no longer registered and this is a scam as this recently happened to a friend of my husband who was still quite new to ebay. They are simply trying to con the phone out of you. They can't leave negative feedback against you either as it's doubtful they will get their account reinstated. Next time just make sure you sell your phone to the UK only as it's better this way especially for selling your mobile. Good luck.0
