My two elderly cats are mum and daughter and I also had their brother and mother/grandmother before them! Unfortunately their brother was killed in an RTA some years ago.thats so sad[/QUOTE]:jIm going to be frugal:j:DIm going to be frugal:D;)Im going to be frugal;)Beetlejuice Beetlejuice...................:rotfl:0 -
She will leave them at some point, if only to have a wee or get a drink - if you have the cosy lovely box ready for them and she finds them in there when she gets back, more and likely she will stay put wherever you have put the box.
We had a stray cat have babies in our spare bedroom once, she must have nipped in when the back door was left open, poor thing. We didnt know what to do, so left her to it, but one kitten died because she hadnt removed the covering from its face when it was born -
But we did keep her and we had her spayed and we found good homes for the 3 kittens. She stayed with us for ages then one day wandered off and never returned. We lived in the country then, so it may be she went back to being the feral cat she had once been.0 -
Mumoffour i am soooooooooo jealous, i love cats and kittens, my beautiful fluffy cat was 6 weeks old when we got her(to early i know), she has grown up with my children, who love and adore her.
best wishes to your family and the new additions xxxx0 -
Congrats granny!
Cant see thats its been mentioned already but forgive me if im pointing out the obvious...
make sure that you lock the catflap, if you have one, and make sure that you provide mum and kits with a nice large litter tray so she doesnt have to leave them. she'll also need one so that she can litter train them as they get a bit older.
good luck! What matters most is how well you walk through the fire0 -
You said she might move them outside, my advice is not to let mum out at the moment as she may well move them. She will almost certainly move them in a day or two as that is an instinct to protect the kits from predators (they move them away from any blood that may still be around).
This evening if she will let you you may need to clean her up a bit. My cats when we had kittens always came to tell us and ask for help during labour. They would always let me handle their kits and in fact we supplementary fed one litter.
I have delivered all our kits, frequently in the middle of the night, they always came and told me! One made me follow her to my DD's wardrobe and another tried to have them on our bed!
Congrats.
Quick tip though although she will need plenty of water don't put the water bowl too near her -a breeder friend of mine found a kitten drowned in the water bowl - it had remained attached to mum when she went for a drink and dropped off in the bowl. I would move mum and kits down to somewhere on the floor ina quiet corner as you don't want mum jumping down witha kitten attached.0 -

...Linda xxIt's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.0
