Crooked Very

Options
Very is the new brand name for former Littlewoodsdirect.com.
Whatever the name, this company has always been very dodgy. For example, it is common practice for Very to advertise notebooks with a CD player built in, but there is not such a thing when you buy the item.

Other common unethical and unlawful practice is that Very advertises mobile phones with £10 credit to be loaded after SIM card registration, but to no avail; the advertised £10 credit does not exists, it is just a plain lie.

However, the worst of all is what Very is currently doing (October and November 2009). Very is nowadays running an outrageous scam. Without asking first to customers, is single sided adding extended insurance cover to any item potentially insurable for extended warranty.

Very did it to myself. Without my authorization it just added extended warranty cover to a petrol lawn mower that I bought 3 years ago and to a notebook that I bought last year.

When I noticed the charges for the allegedly “extended warranty cover” I angrily phoned customer services and energetically requested Very to refund the charges.
Very’s customer services advisors have been trained to tell the public that what Very has been doing was to give customers “orientations” for extended warranty cover. But what crooked Very call “orientations” on my statement, were actually two charges, one for £38 and another for £42

To sum up, Very is currently shafting customers with unlawful financial products. Very is currently adding insurance cover on previously purchased items, without the customer’s knowledge.

Please, someone has got to investigate and sanction this unlawful and unethical company

Just wondering if you've got any proof for this, either online or scanned / emailed ? If true, very disturbing.

    Hello rsykes2000,

Indeed, I have proof of what I say. The proof appears on my latest account statement.
However, I am sorry, but I am not prepared to advertise a copy of my account to any stranger. Eventually, I could disclose my Very account statement to a county court or to the Financial Ombudsman, but please be sensible!
Do you really expect me to publish my financial details, address, etc; on the Internet?!

    Kind regards

  • Thanks OP, I have just joined them to take advantage of a new customer code.. I'll pay that off and doubt I will buy again. I think that we should all be looking at our accounts with these catalogues they all see to be joined with each other..

I'm trying to work out where the poster asked for your personal details, I also find it very hard for a major company such as littlewoods direct to be so unscrupulous, maybe they made a mistake just on your account because I havn't seen anyone else post about this but I could be wrong

    Hello Will,

Well, you better believe it. As explained, the proof is my account statement and a letter dated 3/11/09 saying: THANK YOU FOR CHOOSING EXTENDED SERVICE PLAN.
I never choose anything, Very just banks on the fact that many people do not thoroughly check their statements.

You seem to be hurling quite some accusation at Very. I wonder what would happen if Very accused you of not reading their t&c's or small print, or maybe failing to understand what may have been explained to you?

Do we just have to take your word for the fact that Very are "Crooked" and assume that you are not at fault at all.

    No jamspir!
You are wrong here. It is Very's faults, Very advertises those supposed £10 air time with certain new mobile phones. When you call the networks' customer services, they refer you back to the seller of the item, which is Very.
