Visa has it's own section 75 style protection, and this applies to under £100 across all their cards, debit included. http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/section75-protect-your-purchases#debitcard

However, in theory at least, this shouldn't matter as paypal are a middleman, and this innvalidates section 75 protection anyway. That said- I know all this from the other side of the scam fence- buyers getting stuff out of us for nothing http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/section75-protect-your-purchases#exceptions

Nice one, lets hope he has enough money left in the account!!

Lesson learnt though (and not just by the OP, I have traded out side of eBay, sucessfully I hasten to add, but will be very much more cautious in future!!)

the thing is plenty trade out o ebay without problem
when i ebayed full time i had loads of off ebay sales
i always offered to create a listing for people but many were happy to just send money
once had somoene send a cheque for £600,so theres plenty out there for scammers!

Wouldn't count your chickens just yet As it was an off ebay transaction if there is no money in his paypal account you won't get refunded.

I will be surprised if there is.

It appears the money already has been credited, according to the message. I'm guessing the scammer got greedy, and kept taking payments.
