I think credit unions need a bit more support to make them consumer friendly.I just wish more people would get out of the Provi, Brighthouse mentality. Credit unions, the way forward. I did some volly work this time last year there and it was good to see folk coming in with a fiver, fifteen quid or what ever they had and paying in. Some savvy people had been paying in all year and got a nice cheque to spend at Christmas.
I rang a local one up recently, to transfer some savings across into a new account (frankly, the savings are not doing much in RBS, i could live without the interest).
The guy confirmed the opening hours, with the all important single late night opening, for me.
"Oh, but you can't use us. You have to use the one for your postcode region"
Ok, fair enough, but that one has such restricted hours its almost impossible to use. It was frustrating because they are a great idea.0 -
I have a friend who used to see the same parents every week at her son's swimming lessons (as you do) and one of them was, I suppose, a loan shark.
He had a notebook containing the birthdays of all the children on the estate where he worked. He made sure he went calling a couple of weeks before the birthday was due to see if he could get any business.
I think his justification was that people would borrow the money anyway, so they might as well do it from him.
Personally, I think it's an extremely dubious way to make a living. It should be illegal0 -
I love the white horse's rants.
Sometimes totally bonkers, sometimes a grain of wisdom, but always great reading.

Close to my house, there is a house belonging to a well-established lender, of the sort of products discussed here.
It's the biggest house in the area by far. Neighbouring large houses were bought for his daughter and son, and one nice detached house was bought only to be demolished for a tennis court (Hamish would be gutted at the wanton waste of housing stock!)
It does seem that debt pays very well. The fleet of upmarket cars with aligned private reg's show this.
To earlier comments about defaulting on loans to people like this, the simple answer is you don't! These people get their way. You rarely win any arguments with them, judging by the attitude you see on display.0 -

& as I've said on another thread, I may not earn megabucks like you. I may not own a house. I may not have all the trappings you have. But I do have the love of a good woman. So I am considerably richer than thou.
& I am not as ignorant or dogmatic either...
Can I play? I earn megabucks, have a home and most of the trappings.
Oh, and I have the love of a good woman.

Oh no! I've just re-read the thread imagining White Horse with a falsetto voice. Doesn't work for me. Though at least he wouldn't need to worry about baldness. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Oh my, I am so embarrassed now...I thought Lemonjelly was female!
I've now got to start reading his posts with a male voice in my mind and not a female one.....We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

I'll play too
I earn nothing, live in housing association housing with no trappings and only have the love of my 3 boys...
