If someone actually said 'nystagmus doesn't exist', then that person is an ignorant idiot because it very definitely does exist.
I agree! This was after I gave her a piece of paper (recognised by council for bus pass) that says "has Nystagmus" and I also gave her a booklet with information in.
I agree with the stuff about IBS - because I self harm; I've been told that "it's all in my head". Yes, because I love faking having a wheat intolerance - not!Dyslexia and Dyspraxia are seen as stupidity and an unwillingness to learn.
I have a friend who is Dyslexic. After he got diagnosed, his English teacher found out and moved him down a set because apparently, he's "thick".Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

Well I am soooooooooooooo glad its not just me then. My son has ADHD and dyspraxia, well thats his diagnosis but obviously he is just a badly behaved clumsy brat
I have epilepsy and the rection of some people is unbelievable, I have been accussed of being drunk, stoned and many other things I can't repeat on here. One person told my husband I was possessed by a demon to which he replied "Yes I know she is but thats when she isn't having a seizure" :rotfl:
Don't even get me started on mental health:mad: I better stop now before I explode:oSealed Pot Challenge Member NO. 853 :j0 -
On of the panelists on Loose Women said the other day, "Obesity is an illness but anorexia isn't" - with attitudes like that...0

Not saying it's right; but that's probably because all they see. I have a friend who is autistic; but can't talk. She's had people tell support staff that all she needs is a smack - she's 25.
I'm rather clumsy and have no co-ordination and have been called "thick" for that reason. I am not thick - I am partially sighted and can't do things that other people do; partly because I can't see that well.I have been accussed of being drunk
I have too; because I can't walk in a straight line.:oSealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

That's so typical, both my sons are autistic, can you imagine saying someone in a wheelchair was too lazy to walk?
Why do so many people think they know what is going on other peoples lives?
I find even health professionals are dreadful, had an incident in A&E when a doctor refused to check my son over as he "is severely autistic and they all scream"!
Turned out to be severe ear infection in both ears:mad:0 -

It's amazing how often people are carelessly labelled as 'neurotic' by members of the medical profession, especially if the person being labelled is female. Often a dangerous attitude when someone has a real illness, whether they are also neurotic or not!"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." Stigma regarding Mental health problems is high and I think its possibly to do with how the NHS has approached mental health in the past by instutionalising the majority of people to now care in the community and support how it should be. I think due to this older people (not all) still see how people with mental health problems have been dealt with the past and have that view today. I think with everyone else its lack of education people just don’t know what to do or what the illness is and react badly not right but just how things are
The one thing that infuriates me is the amount of times you may be ill go into the hospital and there is something wrong but due to mental health issues its "all in your head" and so you don’t get the treatment you deserve because of preconceptions!
Also I have severe psoriatic arthritis and the amount of times I get told I can’t have that I’m to young i just want to turn round and say " could you tell my immune system and my bones that?"
I’m also Dyslexic and the amount of times I get told that it doesn't exist and your just stupid ! I’m like yes and your ignorant:wall:0 -

I couldn't agree more.
It infuriates me too. Just because I have a mental illness, it doesn't mean that I won't at some point in my life be physically ill. It really irks me.
R.e. Dyslexia. A few of my friends have suffered the same treatment. It's diabolical.2019 Wins

My husband suffers from depression, anxiety and IBS.
Most of our neighbours don't even know. If he is bad, they just don't see him at all and if he is not too bad, he puts the 'mask' on and they see someone smiling and making jokes.
One of the reasons he tells no-one is for the very reasons you are saying, that he will be looked upon as a fraud who has found a good way to scam the Benfits system (he claims IB, no-one knows that either). Unless you are sitting in a corner being a gibbering wreck, people always think you are faking depression, or you are just being attention-seeking.
And I agree with a previous poster that he has heard 'everyone has tummy aches' when referring to the IBS.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
You hit the nail on the head there for so many people SDW."All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." (Edmund Burke)
