I am worried they have spoken to my Dad and he has given them his bank details. I am visiting him on Sunday and will check his statements. These people are apparently claiming he has a Sky+ box which he doesn't.
Is there anything we can do about them I wonder?0 -
I seem to remember somthing similar to this featured on Watchdog.0

I get a call approx every 12mths and tell them where to shove it and have done for as long as I can remember and I have been with SKY since the late 90'sBorn and bred in Manchester (proud of it)
Now living on the other side of the Pennines0 -
hi we are haveing trouble with these people and dont no how to stop them can you help0

People have to be very careful these days whether receiving letters through the post or phone calls from rip off merchants and the fact they may have some of your personal details from other companies makes it quite scary.0

I took a call like this while I was at Mums . The first call was a few years ago now and her sky box was about ten years old. The callers pitch was that we should be concerned that the warranty had run out... how concerned should you be when you've been out of warranty for about nine years. ! It's a con ! They ring up now and again and thankfully Mum just says no.0

My Husband took a call from SMS this afternoon, and said he wasn't the (Sky cover) policy holder and to call back - he did, this evening!! .. and what an arrogant little man he was !! He TOLD ME I had a Sky+ box - then asked "is this correct?" .. he then continued to TELL ME that I was paying "9 per month" and asked "is this correct?". I told him he seemed to know more than I did, which he repeated quite sarcastically - then he reminded me the calls were recorded. He then told me that I was paying too much for my cover - I said in his opinion - he sarcastically told me that I most definately WAS paying too much!! I kindly suggested he listen to the recorded call with his Manager, as his customer service skills were non existant, and I was NOT interested - goodbye!!
This is the 3rd time I have had a call similar to this - the first time I fell for it - and ended up with 2 policies. Trading Standards took the first case on and I had a refund, and they investigated this, and other complaints.
If you have an existing policy with Sky (or the insurance company they use) they will only ever contact you to confirm your policy will roll over - they don't cold call touting for business - this is a scam call !!0 -
 I received a phone call from this company in August 2010, and being led to believe they were actually official Sky representatives, I signed up and paid £84.99 for a year's cover.
Well, I called customer services yesterday to report a fault ( within the specified times) and there was no answer so I called the 24hr breakdown line and all the representatives were busy. I left a message requesting a call back which hasn't happened. I called again this afternoon - same message - all the representatives busy.
Hmmmm. Now I have a genuine Sky engineer calling tomorrow and will obviously be charged. It worries me that SMS had an awful lot of my personal details which also led me to believe they were the real deal.0 -
Personally & speaking as an Ex Cable & Satallite engineer, these 'scheme's are a waste of money.Kirsten1969 above paid £85 for a useless service plan when a service call from Sky only cost's £65,saving you £20.So say you have this plan in place for 5 years, you've paid them a few hundred pounds, you call Sky out once in those 5 years to realign the dish,You've paid over FIVE times the amount of what it would've cost for a one off service call.Money you could've put towards a nice HD TV...
If the installation is done right, then you will never need a service call at all. These companies use scare tactics to get you to sign up to them & once they've got you.0 -
And the first year is covered by Sky anyway (both for equipment and callout). No free lunch, and no free laptop0
