  • thanks to all replies!! I used ant powder at the main entrance and it's done the trick there is no action in and out of the nest now, and I put it on at about 6.15pm.So remember everyone if its in an easily accesible place use ant powder as rec by a pest control man!!!

I've lost count of the number of wasps nests I've removed .... easy job (especially in the open) ....

    a) Cover yourself (wear long sleaved clothes, trousers, hat and gloves
    b) arm yourself with 2 cans of good quality wasp killer (try it beforehand to see that it's effective on killing the varity you have)
    c) get a long length of wood (over 2 meters long), Bamboo cane is ideal
    d) Very Powerful vacum cleaner, with long length attachment.
    e) somewhere safe to hide after you've "done the deed"

    1) Keep everyone (including neighbours you like inside and away from the battlefield)
    2) Now .... start the cleaner
    3) spray loads of wasp killer (avoid breathing too much in), use a face mask if necessary
    4) prod the nest and break it open with the long baboo cane
    5) hoover up as much of the content and live wasps as possible
    6) keep doing this, stopping to spray the area to kill the wasps
    7) keep this up until the nest is cleaned up .... it will take around 60-80 seconds to do this.
    8) keep spraying and hooving up the next debris.
    9) now leave the carnage, keep the vacume going, and masking tape a bag over the end of the hose, squirting a good dose of wasp killer into the cleaner first - now leave the cleaner alone and let the contents die....
    10) Leave the area and go in for a well earned drink....

Note for about an hour or 2 after, wasps will keep returning to find there home, keep spraying and killing the !!!!!!s ..... keep kids and people you like away from the battle zone .... Only empty the hoover about a day later - empty the content into a seperate dusbin bag !

£5 worth of wasp killer, and the jobs done !!

    Good luck .... :T

Our local council pest control will deal with a wasps nest for free if it's in an area that may endanger any children or OAPs. If you've got children, or an OAP as a neighbour, it may be worth seeing if you local council has the same sort of policy. This is far safer than trying to deal with it yourself.

Leave it alone - I assume it's away from the house? They will all die off over the next month or so and the queen wasp rarely returns to the same site, the following year.

I agree - being allergic to wasps!

    Some usefull info here!

We have just discovered a wasp nest behind our gas meter box. We have had a quote of £40 from the council to get rid of it. We were wondering if anyone knew how we might do this ourselves?? Is there some powder or something we can put there?

    Thanks

Finally got round to mine yesterday after ant powder failed. Its a foam in an aerosol type tin available from Tesco and Wilkinsons £2.99. Worked a treat. There are a few similar products but this was the cheapest. Nest looked half disenintegrated this morning and not a wasp all day.

As already mentioned the foam stuff works so does the powder but it takes longer.
Both are available at your local garden centre.

Wouldn't recommend using the foam or powder if you've got a lot of wasps in there, as the guard wasps will come out and attack the minute you spray if you don't get them when you're spraying. Also, in your home this could make a bit of a mess...

Depends if you want to risk harming yourself, or would prefer to pay the money...
