Waaaay back before the low cost supermarkets got into fake Baileys, I remember making my own. I think the recipe might have been from the BBC Food and Drink programme. If you want a real cheapo-looking present, then homemade Baileys in the tackiest bottle you can find (an old squash bottle with the label half torn off, or something?) might do the trick.

I've had a quick Google, but the recipes coming up first are pretty complicated and expensive. I have a feeling the old one was something along the lines of one part whisky to four parts cream. And it was nice, too.

My Gran gets me a bottle of Carolans every Christmas:rolleyes: - it's Bailey's like, but IMO horrible and nothing like the real thing, but I'm sure others like it!
    It's £6 a litre in Asda.

Irish Meadow is £3.98 in Tesco.
that's the same one as Iceland
  • Oh that's a good idea Laurel. There are recipes over on the OS board lookie here!

    Or here.

    It's only a game

My friend and I prefer the Aldi one - Ballycastle - its great in coffee too.
I don't like the Asda one, its wine based, not whiskey.
  • I don't like Bailey's at all but I've heard good things about the one from Lidl
  • Baileys is made with Irish Whiskey and is 17% ABV

Some cheaper ones are made with some wine and are 14% ABV (which is why they are cheaper).

Lidl and Aldi ones are made with whisky and (whiskey!) and 17%.

Just so you know the difference.
    .....

  • I really like the carolans one

Thanks again - took a look in Tesco this morning, but noticed the wine content and wasn't sure what to do. Think I'll stick with the straight whisky version, so will check Lidl/Aldi when I'm near them later in the week.
