Hi I have been reading through some info on claimimg back PPI.
I know I have definatley had loans through Abbey, HFC, and Black Horse who all told us that we would only get the loan if we had the PPI with it.
I know taht we cancelled the PPI with the abbey loan a few years later.
My problem is that I am unsure when we took out the loans and exact amounts as these were back in 2002/2003.
I have no paperwork for them and I no longer have any products with them.
I have also had store cards with Argos and MFI who also just added the PPI, again no paperwork for them (I love my Shredder lol)
How do I go about refinding this info, or is there nothing I can do.
Im fed up with banks etc always chasing me for money....about time I did some chasing back and maybe pay my debts off a lot quicker
Thanks in advance for any help

Hi there
The only way really would be to request for the info by requesting a SAR (Subject Access Request), where they should send everything they still hold on you.
However there is a charge of £10 postal order or cheque payment for this request, and they have 40 days to comply.
SAR template letter here:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1475553
Give them as many details as possible as well in order for them to track down your details, full name, old addresses if you lived elsewhere whilst taking out the finance and your date of birth and also old surnames etc.
I note you have a few here and of course requesting SAR's can add up for each bank, however, it may also be worth especially if any of the accounts are still running, or they have been paid off in recent years of requesting a copy of your Agreement (CCA), and just enclose a £1 postal order or cheque payment.
They have 12 days for this request, just write a simple letter for this request, there is a template around here somewhere for this, but a simple letter of request will do, with making them aware that you have enclose your payment and expect to receive by 12 days.
Again as stated above, if you no account numbers, give them as many details as possible to make tracking down your info easier.
Post all letters by recorded delivery, this is your proof of posting.
If for some reason they do not supply any of your info, they must return your payments back with normally an explanation in writing of why they cannot supply it.
Hope this helps.
You could try another way, check all old statements, for example, if you bank online, you should be able to go back as far as 5/6 years, this way you should be able to retrieve any old account numbers to the monthly loan repayments, the account numbers should be shown next to the payments made for your loans.
Just as long as you have the account number then that is fine and a good start, but otherwise I would suggest the above.
If you the account number, you can continue to write to them, and sometimes they enclose a copy of your CCA and enclose it with their response, this way then you do not have to pay anything.

Thanks very much I just saw your a-z of addresses and remembered a few more.
The thing is we were in our early twenties just got a house and knew little about money etc and just kept getting credit, paying off one loan with another etc until we ended up in this mess......we always took out the PPI as it was always persuasivley offered and then when we came to claim after hubby was made redundant no-one would pay out!!!
We no longer have loans and would never have the PPI again. We learnt our lesson!!
So let me check I am about to do the correct thing:
Write off to any companies who I think I have had dealings with enclose a £10 cheque asking for any information they have on me/ hubby etc. Include as much info as I can remember,m then wait?

Your very welcome.;)
You certainly have good reasons to reclaim, and not to worry the main of us here have been through this as well, taking out a loan to pay off another and so on, it was the easiest way at the time, and yet it seems that this ppi was always part of the loans etc, so do give it a go.
Yes you got that correct, if you post by recorded delivery, I know its a little more dearer than normal posting, but its worth making sure it reaches them, where as you know you can check this out on the Royal mail website.
Good luck with this and just yell for help anytime, and please keep us posted.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

Wow you've done well :T:T
Well done, great work.
If you can (if you want to), ring the banks or if they are local to you, you could ask if they can trace any of your account numbers for you, you do not have to give them a reason, this way it should be free, but at least with a SAR, surely something useful will arrive back within.
Seems like you've a lot of money to come back, so keep at them and give us a yell if you need any help on the reclaiming, for when your ready.
Good luck.;)

Not wishing to put a dampener on things but if you took your loan out from Abbey in 2002 and cancelled the policy more than 3 years ago they will probably be able to timebar your complaint.
That doesn't prevent you trying but you will need to be realistic about your prospects of success.0 -

Right Heres where Im at
I sent five SAR letters by recorded delivery on Tuesday to:
Firstplus this loan was settled with a remortgage about 5 years ago it had a PPI policy which should pay out after 5 years if you didnt make a claim, not sure what happened with that.
Blackhorse we had a couple with these guys and I remember being sat in the office and the guy telling us we probably wouldnt get the loan without the PPI. These are now settled.
HFC have had a few with these aswell mainly through HP these are all settled would I have to claim through the co we had the HP with ie Curry and Halfords?
Redcats as I ran a catalogue for a few years and sure I was paying PPI
And Abbey one loan is still running but is in a DMP with CCCS but we have had others which have been settled. We tried to claim on one as hubby had been made redundant but because he was never out of work for more than 30 cons days they wouldnt pay out, so we cancelled the ins as it wasnt worth paying for something we cant use.
Just wondered what kind of info the SAR should come back with?
I also need to do letters for hubbys CCs
He had one with Abbey/MBNA this is now in DMP
And we had one through our Northern Rock Together Mortgage
Both cards were in joint names so do we both need to apply for a SAR or just him as he was first named?
I am also going to go for Argos store card as they were charging PPI for a while until I spotted it on a bill and cancelled it.
I wish now that I had kept all of the paperwork......I have learnt from this site and now keep everything!
Im not expecting much back but even if one pays up it will please me.
We took out the loans with policys hoping to be protected but when the !!!!!! hit the fan they didnt want to know.....but they are quite happy to keep chasing me for money!!
Thank you for all of your support I really appreciate it xxLook atfer the Pennies and the ££££'s will care for themselves :money:0
