I made a nice pasta bake once with soft cheese, tinned tomatoes and frankfurters.
It had a really nice sort of creamy tomato sauce (tasted very similar to the Dolmio one actually)
Boil pasta
Fry onion (sliced) and garlic. Add chopped tomatoes, tomato puree, , jalapenos (optional!) and a bit of water. Cook to reduce then add sliced frankfurters. Near the end add basil and cream cheese.
Top with grated cheese and bake
This recipe stemmed from being in a similar situation to yours!0 -
Yes you can freeze cheese, and apart from perishable essentials you could try and see how many weeks you can go without doing any grocery shopping with that store-cupboard.
Pilchards you can do a pasta bake with a breadcrumb topping, with the pilchards peering out of the top (like star gazy pie), or make pastry if you can.
1x tin of baked beans
1x tin of tomato and 3 bean soup
1x tin of spicy tomato and lentil soup
1x half tin of beans and sausages
1x little tin of tomato puree
2x tins of tomatoes
1x carton of chopped tomatoes
With some stock and a liquidiser, and a little cream or creme fraiche to stir in, that should give you several meals of hearty soup.
1x box cannelloni
1x tin of hotdogs
1x spicy meatball mix
1x shepherds pie mix
Mash up the hotdogs, spice mix, stuff the canneloni, cheese sauce over.
1x box of chestnut mushrooms
Mmmm, mushroom soup or stir-fry
3/4 pack of pepperoni
2x pizza base mixes

Im gonna try this storecupboard(and freezer challenge),I need to empty my freezer from now until 19th anyway as we're getting a new upright freezer delivered(I hate my chest freezer),and we've just decorated the kitchen and right now im taking a break from cleaning inside the kitchen cupboards,so all tins and packets etc are on the worktops, that should make it easier for me to make an inventory of everything thats lurking in them.
will need sto set aside some time later to read through all these posts.

I'm going to try and do this over lent. After 2 approved foods orders in the past month my shelves & cupboards are groaning under the weight of food
Fresh fruit/veg/salad & dairy products only unless we run out of something completely for the whole of lent, with the exception of DDs birthday on the 5th April;)Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -
I am planning on using up what I have got in our freezer this month. To save on money but I am also feed up with freezing food and then leave in there for 6 months or a year. I need to do a inventory list too. I got one for the cupboard but not one for the freezer. I shall try to do this next weekend. No toiletries challenge, started 18/1/2010 - Putting £1 in my savings jar for every item that I use up. Pot 1 to 4 = £261. Pot 5=£23

This is a very informative forum. I recently got a recipe book out of the local library (use it or lose it) based on store cupboard ingredients. Lots of tinned stuff and pasta but also a lot of ingredients i wouldn't necessarily think of as store cupboard such as fresh spinach, aubergines, etc. A lot of the ingredients were a bit on the expensive side and resulting recipes not particularly low calorie.
I have lots of tinned tomatoes, baked beans, tinned salmon, tinned sardines, dried beans, green lentils, pasta, couscous, cheese, eggs, Granose soya mince (not tried this yet but bought it because low fat and low cost), various frozen veg. and some frozen lower fat minced beef.
I'm out of ideas for lower calorie recipes- low fat bolognese/chilli; bean pasta; beans on toast/potato; lentil curry; salmon pasta; omelette' I love veggie moussaka (low fat) and I've found a microwave recipe for ratatouille which is brilliant BUT the ingredients are costly (strong cheese, aubergines, fresh tomatoes).
Any ingenious ideas PLEASE?0 -
I have taken a week off to try and sort the house and paperwork out, and one of the first tasks was to re-organise the kitchen cupboards.
Well - I knew there was a lot there and I have a problem reaching into the back of them. BUT what an embarrassment of goodies there turned out to be. As I also have a chest freezer full to bursting, and a fridge/freezer fullish, I think I can probably manage to eat out of the existing stock without buying anything but milk, fresh veg and fruit for a couple of months at least.
I have a compulsion to buy bargains and bogofs, but really I need to be locked up for a month or two to use it all up. It seems like a lot of you guys are just the same!Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14
