  • I just looked in my freezer... it's not self-defrosting! NO FAIR!!

It would be impossible to get to the bottom of my freezer!!!! I need to borrow some elses so I can defrost mine!!!

    - glad you could join us :) your brussel sprouts, parsnips and yorkie puds sounds like a start of a roast dinner parhaps? oh wait, I just realised you've already said that... I'll get my coat...

misscousinitt - what? you mean you have to tempt him to eat the drizzle cake? honestly! some men just don't know how lucky then are! :D

Winged one - your smoothie sounds delicious! How about making a nice wintery crumble with your soft fruits? you can't beat a good crumble!

Julie - oh no, I thought yours was frost free, boo. Maybe you could tweak your (very refined) meal planning to try using up what's in there?

Now there's a good idea! I did the full storecupboard challenge (only using what's in stock and not buying anything extra if at all possible) around a year ago, and found it a great way of sorting out all the odds and ends I had sitting around. I might try doing it again now you've reminded me - thanks, Pink!

pink_numbers - I can't help on the elderflower cordial as I've got exactly the same problem - I made a batch over the summer and found it far too sweet for my taste, so it's been in the freezer ever since. I really hope someone has some bright ideas of what to do with it.

Like a lot of people I've got a load of fruit in my freezer, and I'm loving the idea of crumble, now it's getting to that time of year again. I'm not very good at making crumble and need some serious practice to get it right - which is a fine reason for making them on a regular basis this year, I think. :D

I've used up one portion of meatball casserole, which is currently heating through in the oven. Well, it's a start! :o

I counted the bananas and there are 34 so i wasn't far off. I think i'll need to use some of those up over the weekend.

I made homemade kebabs today and i had too much mince so 1/2 a pack of lamb mince has gone in the freezer, and 4 pitta breads have come out. So, i haven't made any more space really but i'm sure i'll get there eventually.

There is one problem... I feel panic welling at the idea of having no food stores!!! How can I live without a little of eveything???

    Sounds so daft!!!

But when my meat started getting low a few months ago (I have 1 compartment full only, and my basket was empty) I felt worried and stressed about where I would find money to refill it!!!!

My cupboards are fine... I rotate them, and apart from packets I bought in Germany everything get's used!!!

I think I will just have to think about the freezer problem for a few more months.... hmmmm!!

  • actually, it's not as scary as you think, because you put the money you save by eating out of the freezer aside, then when the freezer is empty, you spend that money to fill up the freezer again.

Personally, after this challenge is done, I will have at least £60 saved. Which goes a long way in filling up my freezer again :)
