Store cupboard challenge

Hi taplady,
I just use the beans straight out of the can and use it in the same way I would use beef.
Add all the normal stuff and make a meat free shepherds pie, does that make sense?
Looks like I will be here for the next couple of months to come.....all I will say in my defense is that Approved Foods is addictive! But they do have the most wonderful stuff lately, sun dried toms, olives, olive oil, broth mix, rices and cereals......
and as it is my quest to only eat what is in the house or stuff that I can salvage from the compost heaps, how could I not,,,,,,,,,,,,,I have had about 200 pounds worth of stuff but I bet I have saved a small fortune in the mean time,,,,,,but it really does have to end here as the house is getting out of control again with boxes of stuff everywhere from under the bed to under the stairs.Ebay 13........1583.46/2000.00 Amazon sales 54/50 Etsy sales 63/50

Is anyone still doing this?!
Yes - I am! I've been storecupboard challenging since the start of the month and am really pleased with the results - I can now shut the freezer door without difficulty, and open the cupboard door without anything falling on my head.(I haven't bothered posting updates as, like you, I wasn't sure if anyone was still reading this thread, and it felt uncomfortably like talking to myself!)
SanFran - thank you for the warning on Approved Foods. I keep seeing it mentioned on the forum and have been tempted to have a look - if it's that badly addictive I'll steer clear.Back after a very long break!0 -
CCP, Give AF a chance they really are a good company!
The prices really are amazing.
I just have a problem with self control!
In saying that, we had a family trauma a few weeks ago, and I had a wobble where cooking was out. My boys who are useless at looking after themselves just lived off the cous cous pots that I thing cost 99p for 12. Also cereal that cost about 50p a box.
If you are on a tight budget it makes a huge difference, yes you can buy a load of rubbish like cakes and sweets, but to be fair you can do that in any shop.
I have nothing but good to say about the company, I just have to use the stuff now,,,,,,,,,,,
Last night I used some of the sun dried toms (50p a bottle) and olives (1.99 a case of 12) and made a pesto. Ow and used some of the pasta that cost 33p a bag! So dinner for all three of us for under a quid!
Please do not let me put you off.Ebay 13........1583.46/2000.00 Amazon sales 54/50 Etsy sales 63/50

Don't worry - I was joking (or at least mostly joking) - I really do intend to go and have a look when I've run my existing stocks down a bit more.
My current problem is rice - I can't work out why I have three packs (two white, one brown) when I don't even really like rice. :huh:Back after a very long break!0 -

try makin a cheap piping bag from some folded greaseproof paper (or use a plastic bag with one corner cut off)
anyway my storecupboard recipes r as follows:
chopped onion, tin of cheapo tomatoes, crushed garlic, mixed herbs (dried) splash of wine and let simmer for 20 mins serve over boiled pasta and top with grated parmesan or similar cheese (dried is ok if ur skint)
another one i do is: boil some pasta, while its cookin chop some tinned ham, cherry toms, cucumber, celery (basically anythin u need to use up) when pasta is cooked drain and toss with ur chopped ingredients sprinkle with cheese and seasonin and serve!!!!!yummmm0 -
I am going to do this for the month of April; have had a few Approved Foods deliveries and now have lots of things to use over the next few weeks.
My tins cupboard is full to bursting as is the overflow cupboard.
2 of the 3 freezers have loads in also.
I will continue to receive the weekly organic veg box and milkman dlivery for milk, butter and fruit juice; the only other thing I can see us needing will be eggs and fresh fruit later in the month, and maybe some drinking yogurts for DS2 .
The boys are on holiday from school for 2 weeks and it is DS1 birthday at the end of the holiday, as they both eat loads hopefully the stocks should go down.
I have plenty of baking ingredients in to use for hm snacks etc, I also make all our bread.
I have a chicken cooking in the slowcooker as we speak and will serve some of it later with jacket potatoes and saladMy self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
So we’re empty nesters.
Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).
My mother always served up leftovers we never knew what the original meal was. - Tracey Ulman0 -
I am also trying to put my AF stuff to good use, for lunch today I had half a nut roast left over from last night and I made up a Spicy lentil cup a soup and put it on top gave it a good mix up and it was OK sort of a stew thick soup consistency.
Of course desert had to be a fruit pot of pineapples in juice.Ebay 13........1583.46/2000.00 Amazon sales 54/50 Etsy sales 63/50
