Store cupboard challenge

Now I wonder if anyone can help me with the half (large) jar of sauerkraut I also found in the fridge! I bought this for a recipe which wasn't very nice so don't want to make that again, but I have no idea what else I can do with it.
my favourite way of eating sauerkraut is to cook it along with a pork joint. the joint becomes soooo tender and the browned bits of the sauerkraut are extra nice. if you can't handle the sourness of it so well mix in a bit of bicarb (i'd say about 2 tsps for the amount you have left) into it before baking, the bicarb neutralises some of the acid, or you can add a bit of sugar, it's lovely mmmmm wish i had some now!
you can also cook it along with pork chops, in the oven or in a slow cooker very very tasty0 -
Having done an inventory of the freezer, I have found I have enough chicken and mince which together with all the tuna in the cupboard and cheese in the fridge should keep me going for about three weeks altogether.

Hmm, am trying very hard to use up freezer stocks..... But its not working very well. I keep taking stuff out, making things and more goes back in!!
I made lamb stew the other day with 5 neck chops, barley and veg, so removed the small bag of neck chops from freezer and replaced 2x portions of stew (one has no meat but the veg was lovely)
Today i used a 2.5kg leg of pork joint from freezer, and then made 6 portions of pork, brocolli and taleggio lasagne (with some oxford blue cheese in the sauce)
Thats great, but 4 portions are back in the freezer... And I have loads of pork left to make noodles on tuesday....
I am trying, have meal planned for all of january using freezr stuff, but feel like unless I use precooked ready meals (HM) I end up with more back in than I take out.... Am I a victim of OS success?0 -
My 'cure' for putting loads back in the freezer is not to! Instead I eat the same stuff for a couple of days on the trot. Means less cooking and less variety, but I can live with that.
Not sure if this would work with chidlren at home though.

Problem is-I have 3 days worth of dinners of lasagne, plus at least another day of stir fry pork.... so not much choice but to put it back in0

The other option is to make different sauces for the leftovers- that keeps your freezer space a bit better. Im thinking with pork, do a mushroom sauce for some, and a gravy for the other IYSWIM so you can eat it on subsequent days without total boredom lol:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Long_tall_sally wrote: »Well I just went to eat my Turkey & sweetcorn soup & rather bazzarly it had changed from a soup into a turkey noodle normal meal! I can only assume that it was because the egg noodles that were in it had soaked up all the liquid over the last couple of hours. Anyway, we both eat & thought it was lovely, so might even make it that way again, intentionally! Only problem is, we are now too full for any prawns in satay sauce and as we are having roast chicken for dinner tomorrow, I don't know when we will use them. They are ready cooked prawns which were bought as a whoopsie on their use by date & then sat in the fridge for a day before they were frozen. I suppose I could just taste them on Monday & use them then if they taste ok?
TBH I really wouldn't risk it not with prawns!!! They can give you seriously nasty food poisoning.0 -

Tomorrow im doing roast chicken ( if it ever defrosts) with root vegetable rosti using the blade on the kenwood chef . Cant wait! Got somecreme fraiche to use up so will prob do a honey mustard sauce or mushroom to go with it. Frankfurter hotpot, random clove of garlic or garlic powder if you have any in, a rather tired looking onion..diced, random carrot from back of the fridge...diced, a spud from the stash...diced..tin of tomatoes (value of course) some shredded cabbage that I was trying to work out what to do with and lurking tin of frankfurters..chopped. fry off the garlic, carrot, spud and onion, add the rest of everything, throw lid on saucepan and leave for half hour...couple that with hot crusty bread from my breadmaker (as earlier I found a bread mix that I purchased for the princely sum of 15p) and voila....even the guests enjoyed it0
