I'm not too sure how I'm going to cope with this,My freezer currently has 2 microwave meals in it, neither I can eat because they contain nuts, so should really just throw them out, and some bread.oh and some potato waffles.

Only have a very smal freezer in small flat :(

So most of mine will be out of tinned items and packets of pasta/rice, but there doesnt really seem to be any bulk or anything to build my meals around as it were, such as a joint of meat etc.

We had our first day today and for us it went very well which is surprising as we seem to be the worlds worst at just nipping to the shop whenever we fancy something. It is only early days but am feeling quite inspired so heres hoping!!
Def helps to know that other people are trying to do the same thing tho.

    Am getting into this already.

Have just used up a pile of veg and some meat from the freezer to make 2x pork casserole, 2 x beef casserole 'ready meals'. (Ate one for tea - yum!!)

Have cooked 4 portions frozen salmon - one for tomorrow's lunch with veg/couscous, other 3 for to re-freeze for lunches next week.

Have looked through dried pulses/store cupboard stuff and have sorted ingredients to make hummous (sp?) tomorrow. Have also put a bowl of mung beans to soak, to make my own beansprouts for my cookery class (and to eat for lunch. Will also make something sweet tomorrow, maybe chocolate muffins.

Not a definite plan but next weeks lunches for work will include:

ham/cheese/salmon sandwich, salad, hummous, pitta & carrot sticks, fruit, muffins.

    Enough for tonight....

Well as everyone else seemed to be making a start I dug some chicken fillets out of freezer and used those and some pearl barley and red lentils to make casserole in slow cooker, just added carrots and onion. We all had it for tea tonight but I ended up with another 3 portions to go back in freezer.
Lillibet I see where you are coming from on this one..lol. At this rate my freezer will still be full at the end of the month just with meals instead of ingredients.
Still as long as it is saving money thats not a problem.
Just lifted a gammon joint out tonight for tomorrow and will probably make pea and ham soup with the leftovers (and put back in freezer)

Cupboard under the stairs, along with the freezer. You wouldn't believe the things I have to wade through to get to the freezer in the first place! (A sack of dog food, 6 bottles of lemonade, a months supply of porridge oats for hubby, a wolly the sheep left over from Christmas.........!!!)
Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p

In England we have Mothering Sunday & Father Christmas, Mothers day & Santa Clause are American merchandising tricks:mad: Demonstrate pride in your heirtage by getting it right please people!
  • we keep our extras in the cupboard under the stairs and big things like loo paper, kitchen rolls, washing powder etc in the loft(we have pull down ladder and easy access).
  • meant to say in last post i am doing the store cupboard challenge but am very ashamed to say that inventory shows i could go at least two months:rotfl: we have an american style fridge freezer and stand alone freezer that are ram packed with super reduced meat picked up in the last couple of month.
so my aim is to buy nothing other than fruit, veg, milk and possible a few baking things until 28th june!!

Learning to Save - I am soooo envious of your American style fridge-freezer:cool: ! I really would love one - more to the point, I'd like a kitchen that's big enough to keep it in! My freezer has to be kept in the garage and it really annoys me to have to go out there in the pouring rain just to get a few frozen peas or something!

I must admit that whilst i love it it was my hubby's choice and i swear he loves it more than me:rotfl: and we dont have the room in the kitchen:rotfl: .....the fridge freezer and stand alone freezer are in the dining roon on the wall that backs on to kitchen, just by the door if that makes sense).i was worried it would look odd/be a pain etc at first but it works really well and in the space where my old normal fridge freezer was in the kitchen hubby built a shelving unit from floor to cieling to hold all the gadgets!!!
hubby always wanted an american style one and i refused saying there was nothuing wrong with ours, wasnt wasting money etc.....then ours broke!!! had to replasce it and it seemed silly to spend £300 on a normal one when this one was on super duper offer for £500.....and he was in love with it,silver, digital display etc.
