  • Not according to DH! He just doesn't like the fact the sausages are cooked in the mix. Don't ask! x

  • I'm cleaning out my cupboards to make way for all the Christmas things I want to stockpile and found these:

Slimfast powder in chocolate vanilla and strawberry - any way I could use these in baking or similar?

    Gelatine sachets

Gluten free white self raising flour and plain flour

    Potato flour

    Rice flour

    Flaxseeds

I honestly have no idea what to do with them because when I was making gluten free things the pastry was awful...

Any ideas appreciated thanks in advance!

bin the slimfast lol! sorry! how about a milk pudding of some kind using that as a flavouring and adding the gelatine to thicken it up so its a mousse like type of pudding.

    rice flour....shortbread

flaxseeds, could these go on top of a flap jack?

I wouldn't recommend it, as the powder is a mix of various carbs, vitamins and nutrients. Why not just swap out a meal a day for Slimfast prior to Christmas to avoid the seasonal bulge? :)

Gelatin - make your own fruit jellies, or why not bake a nice game/pork pie using some of the flour to make pastry and use the gelatin to help make the jelly for the pie?

Why not mix some of the gluten free flour with 'regular' flour for baking, or is this not an option due to dietary requirements?
  • Thanks for the replies, yes I could mix the flours and see if that produces a better result! Great idea. And I'll add the flaxseeds to some flapjacks and see how I get on! Might need that slimfast after all lol!

  • not 100% how nutritionally sound it is, but if you've got children, my mum used to make up a diluted version of it for us and whip it up as a milkshake! Or, keep it for when you're not feeling well - I remember my mum feeding it to us when we were a bit older and sick - sneaky way of getting nutrition into us!

Flaxseeds have quite a tough texture - can you grind them up first? a coffee grinder or pestle and mortar? There is a whole thread about linseeds and rice flour and making jelly using gelatine :D

I used flaxseeds sprinkled over salads, or in cereals etc (once ground up)
A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men
