Store cupboard challenge

Hello-someone noticed my recipe whilst I wasn't looking:jChris is right about the substitution. The Cranberry cookies really do taste like shortbread with cranberries in-so that effect would be about right.
As for Flaxseed I went on the sureslim diet years ago (must look into going back) It really is a change your lifestyle than diet. I just went overboard later-but there were two thingsa they insisted on...an apple a day, and a tablespoon of flaxseed or flaxseed oil- I used to stir it into my brekkie or sprinkle seeds over stirfry for supper...I lost 18kg's in three months.0 -
Thanks for all the suggestions.
I popped into my local Sainsburys last night and managed to get bread rolls reduced to 19p, so they've been split and gone into the freezer. I also got some reduced chicken drumsticks and thighs (still Freedom food, but cheaper than basics!) and have planned a curry for BF with one of the thighs, one will be for me with salad and the other two will be a mini roast dinner. The drumsticks have been paired up and gone into the freezer.
I also popped to the Turkish supermarket and got some cheap salad stuff, carrots, onions and more pitta bread, as its dead cheap there. So far have spent £8.
My friend is giving me a lift to the supermarket today so I can get the flour and frozen bits and I'm going to make lunch for us, hard boiled egg salad and pitta.

Sounds like you have it all in hand! Well done you!
Just to add, don't forget Lidl and Aldi for their cheap fruit and veg, can make a big difference to your budget!GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -
Just a thought on the flour on your shopping list, both plain and SR. Could you not just get the plain and add baking powder when SR is required. Unless you are doing mega baking it doesn't look like you will use 3kg of flour in a month, even so I wouldn't buy that much right now and see how you go with just the one.Mortgage

I get both flours as I do a fair amount of baking (I make cakes as presents for people and have a few birthdays coming up before I get paid next). I always buy the basics flour as I find its just as good as the standard shop brand.
Also bought some bananas and satsumas from the Turkish supermarket and frozen veggies from Sainsbury. So far have spent £14.55.Grocery budget in 2023 £2279.18/£2700Grocery budget in 2022 £2304.76/£2400Grocery budget in 2021 £2107.86/£2200Grocery budget in 2020 £2193.02/£2160Saving for Christmas 2023 #15 £ 90/ £3650 -
Having recently rearranged my freezer so I know what's in it, I need to do the same with my storecupboard. What I'd really like to do is have as many meals from what I've got in - no matter how much I try to be good, I always end up going to the supermarket for "odds and ends" far too much.
I shall have to have a read through this thread and find out what I can do with my oodles of breadcrumbs.
This shall be interesting reading.

What can I do with breadcrumbs? Treacle tart is a good option, or save them for your **** pudding(sorry, I can't say the C-word before December
)

:rotfl:Yes, there's enough of it about already - supermarkets packed to the gunnels - not even half-term!
breadcrumbs........or sprinkle them on top of pasta bake, cauliflower or macaroni cheese mixed with seasoning.
or mixed with sugar &/or spices, on top of stewed fruit.
Or.....cover ears, another 'c' word........make into bread sauce.0 -
I used to have a Bakewell Tart recipe that used very fine breadcrumbs instead of ground almonds in the recipe. I think it may have needed some almond essence/flavouring to complete the substitution.
Have tried googling for something similar but because of the way comps 'search' I keep coming up with ordinary recipes.0
