I just remember i applied for Vanquis about 4-5 weeks ago and have still heard nothing, not that I want their card now anyway.

It shouldn't really take that long to say 'yes' or 'no'. Their website actually says 10-14 days.
I would ring them if i were you

The man from HSBC, he say no.

Finding someone to actually tell me the decision was hard enough. The branch refused to tell me the decision because I don't have a full driving licence. They were so incredibly condescending and patronising "we can't tell you if we can't verify your identity"... despite having a provisional license, council tax bill, and credit card bill in hand... Which has been more than enough for every single financial institution I've ever had to provide ID to. If they have different ID requirements, fine, but treating me like a f***ing 12 year old I don't think so.

The helpdesk number on their website went through to a team that doesn't have visibility to online applicaitons... who gave me a number for an offshore team... who couldn't see it either... so they gave me the number for their credit card team (!)... who passed be back to the first team I spoke to so I asked to speak to a team manager... who after placing me on hold for five mins gave me the right number... who placed me on hold for no less than 11 mins before telling me "no".

Every step of the way I was given a national rate number to call myself, the staff refused to transfer me let alone warm transfer. LTSB by contrast have a local rate and geographical number and if another team is involved, they warm transfer and introduce the customer to the next department. All inland, too.

I don't mind getting declined, with my history it's fair cop but just like this time last year the process involved has been appalling and shoddy from start to finish. Rank CS HSBC, Absolutely rank!

Lloyds TSB may have some severe problems behind the scene but their customer facing staff are absolutely top notch and urinate all over those of HSBC.

Mate you're just p!ssed and ranting. Your last para says it all - HSBC staff blow Lloyds away and the recent polls prove that! yea understandably you're annoyed but you're ranting, not giving a true reflection - had you asked, i'd have given you the direct number to credit referrals - plus the branch are quite right that a provisional means nothing in respect of ID - a full licence does, so if you have a provisional then that drops to the same classification as a utility bill, so a passport would be required.

Put it this way, HSBC are in the UK - if you ring the right people, I always ring through on 01226 261010. English speaking 24/7 :D:D:D

Not in the case of Barclays, Co-Operative, LTSB, and RBS Group! I've never had a passport and it's never been a problem in the past. In fact when I took advantage of Halifax's 4.00% term saver last year (matures soon! w00t :D ) I didn't need any ID whatsoever, they IDed me electronically.

I'm p!ssed because of the experience, not the outcome. You didn't see me rant like this when Sygma, BoI, or BoC said no, did you?

EDIT: Put it this way, the bloke told me that Experian made the decision, not the bank...

Mate, Ive also applied to each of those banks - trust me please - its me here, I know banks inside out and you are wrong mate - honestly!

A provisional is not a form of ID and banks do not accept them as being so, a full driving licence however, is!

Hang on, i'll get the links for ID and prove to you......

    Barclays Here: http://www.bank.barclays.co.uk/CurrentAccounts/Identificationdocumentsrequired/P1242557966027

    Lloyds Here: http://www.lloydstsb.com/stand_alone/proof_id.asp

    RBS Here: http://www.rbs.co.uk/personal/current-accounts/g2/id-required.ashx

Experian did make the decision, technically - i.e. you failed their (HSBC's) credit score based on data provided by Experian - so too many searches i'd assume mate? But they shouldn't have implied it was the CRA that declined you, that was naughty.....

I'm not having a go here but I know banks inside out and their processes. A provisional licence does not confirm ID - it can be used, however to confirm an address ONLY!

(technically is not called a driving licence either - but a provisional licence) :D:D

  • Hi all

I've got a Capital One Classic Visa. I've had it for a couple of years. I was given a £500 limit initially, and then given £1100. I've since asked them to raise it a couple of times, and also to change to a progress card. Each request has been declined.

I've recently got an aqua card with £600 limit, and a Vanquis card with £1000 limit, so I feel covered credit wise.

Do Capital One react positively with regard to card changes and credit increases with requests to close accounts?

    Cheers!

No, I closed my Capital One Visa last week and they said ok no problem.

When I opened my Barclays Cash Account I provided my Provisional and nothing else. When I opened my Co-Operative Cashminder I provided my provisional and nothing else. When I opened my LTSB Current Account I provided my Provisional and a letter from the inland revenue. When I opened my RBS account in 2007 I provided a credit card bill, a payslip, and my provisional.

I never said that HSBC wouldn't accept it alone - I stated they wouldn't accept it at all. I had two other proofs along with it.

They didn't decline me due to score but due to adverse (discharged BR and six defaults is plenty enough adverse I'd say!)

EDIT: Granted, I was 20 when I opened the RBS account so they were able to take the provisional as proof of ID.

That's right. A driving licence entitles the named person to drive a vehicle, unsupervised legally. A provisional entitles the named person to only drive a vehicle with someone supervising whom has a licence for more than 2 years.

Two completely different licences, although a driving licence can be both a driving licence and a provisional (I have motorcycle provisional entitlement on mine :rotfl:)

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Anyway... I've had cravings today for that pesky apply button.

Mate I am not going to go on about this but if you are saying the banks accepted ONLY a provisional they have broken AML rules and should be punished in line with current legislation.

I still find it hard to accept that they done this mate - it is simply not allowed and the bank employee that accepted it could lose their jobs and to be honest, they know better.

Sorry, we'll have to disagree here - you do remember I work for the banks, in fraud? I deal with this daily and if I seen a provisional accepted as ID (on its own) I would flag it and have the member of staff escorted off site for srying out loud - major flaw and major breach of AML policy mate.

Sorry but that's my feelings on it. It just does not happen and unless you got a bloke serving you that liked you, there would be no other reason they'd accept a provisional other than an address additional proof of ID (i.e. with something else such as a utility bill).....

You're kinda implying those 4 banks have broken the law, be careful mate - that is Libel as things stand!
