I'm not a fan of Netgear. I believe the D-Link DSL-2740 Wireless-N is pretty good.

No the router name is Tp- Link

The TP-Link TL-WR741ND Wireless Lite N Router offers good performance, a nice set of networking features, an easy-to-use Web interface, and a compact design.

Nearly all Netgear model numbers begin with a D :)

For range issues, you could try locking the router to a particular wireless channel, just in case you're getting interference from a neighbour's operating on the same channel. You need to log into the router config pages to do this. Pick a higher channel no. (e.g. mine's on ch 10, away from other local routers).

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

then wireless settings, pick channels 1, 6 or 11 after finding out what else is out there.

Moving the router slightly or adjusting the aerial position and angle may help your problem.

  • The high-speed powerline adapters with ethernet interface are very good for better connection signals.

    Simple plug and play connection.

They come in pairs usually complete with ethernet cables:

Connect one ethernet cable into your router and the power plug into an electric socket.

In the room where you are using the other computer - connect the other ethernet cable into the laptop and the power plug into an electric wall socket.

Nothing to set up at all -- they just work.

I increased the signal to my laptop from nearly non-existent to 70% and this was through 4 walls.

Have a look on Amazon to see the good reviews these have received.
  • you can go with D-Link Wireless N Router - DIR-615 for cheap router.

a repeater would just re transmit the signal over a longer distance, i think you require a Wireless Range Extender like this

just bear in mind if you do go down the repeater route it halves your wireless speed, but that's not usually the bottleneck unless you have super fast internet access.
on the other hand if you have any network attached storage or share large files between computers within the network you might notice it.

I had a D Link router but my daughters laptop got a very weak signal. When she moved into the loft conversion she could not get a connection at all. I now have a Belkin N wireless router, the connection is great, no problems with internet speed at all.

A router with prefix of 'G' will only send out a signal so far a 'N' will send out a signal futher if that makes sence.

  • its to do with distance i guess you need to upgrade your router i recommend you stay with net gear they are a little pricy but they are easy to set up and they are so expandable i recommend you go for a wireless g which would cost you around thirty sterling or if you wanna go further go for the n wireless the one i have my neighbour down the street can pick up my signal perfectly and we share files etc very good router costing you about 50 sterling
