First post so sorry if its in the wrong place!
Our village delivers regular newsletters to all houses by hand - but we are having more problems with dogs - either out in gardens or coming out of houses.
What is the legal position? Should poeple put 'dog' signs on their gates to warn visitors - then you have a choice whether to enter? The answer is to have boxes at their gates - then people don't need to go inside - but most don't.
We live in a scattered rural village - but just wondered what the position is. Or should they have another sort of sign if they just generally wnat to keep everyone out.
Hav esearched Google but only found stuff on dangerous dogs - not really what I'm asking.

That pretty much answers it. Just black mark anyone where they have problem dogs you can refuse to delivery to anyone in this situation.
Morally they properly should put a sign up but legally no.0 -
Carbon Dioxide fire extinguiser has the desired effect with dogs without any injury or long time effect!!0

Or you could also leave people alone and put your "newsletter" in the local shops so people can take them if they want. Saves you a bite in the a$$ and peoples letterboxes full of stuff they sometimes have no interest in.0

Sounds like a great reason to go and get a dog - perhaps I wouldn't fill our paper recycler with as much junk mail / pamphlets / avon catalogues etc...:p0

Thanks for the reply guys - most helpful.
We just deliver twice a year and think its nicer for each household to get a newsletter delivered - rather than having to collect from a central point.
Its important that people get to know what is going on in their little neighbourhood, as we're very rural - and I would dispute that our efforts are just more recycling rubbish - I hope people don't feel like that anyway.
(We have been taking note of properties with dogs or rough lanes and usually just post their copy. However it just seems to be getting more and more - if they'd just put up a sign we 'd leave them alone - but I've read that a 'dangerous dog' sign is admitting liability - hence no-one does it!)0 -
Now you see what posties are up against every day. To be honest, if there's a dog in the front garden, don't enter it. Not worth the risk.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0

Surely if you took a good swing with it and hit the dog you could cause it serious injury.:j0 -

Yes thats what I plan to do - I was trying to get my facts straight first. Can sympathise with posties etc. If people want dogs thats fine - but don't inflict them on others.0
