Painted floors

As the lino in our bath room is getting rather shabby, I was thinking of perhaps painting the floor boards rather than investing in new lino. Have seen this in a couple of houses and it looks quite good.
I just wondered what would be the best thing to use to fill the gaps between floorboards, and also what type of paint to use for a hard wearing finish.

i am thinking of getting rid of the carpets in my childrens bedrooms and sanding down the floor boards with a varnish finish... but i am also stuck on what to use to fill the gaps, as i can emagine the things that will get put down them... any help would be great..0 -
i dont like paint on floors, but wood stain is ok.
as for the gaps, use a flexible filler. you can get various colored ones now. to suit your final choice of color.
or maybe a nice contrast?Get some gorm.0 -
Didn't think of floor paint, for some reason thought it was just for concrete!
Thanks for suggestions, think I will go with paint rather than wood stain as it is a bathroom - just have to choose a colour now.0 -

When I was a kid, the only people who had painted floors were people who could not afford a bit of lino. I hate the whole concept of painted floors. Nobody would have them, if it wasn't for the stupid makeover programs. You say that you think it looks good. I say It will never be seen in my house.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
I used woodstain in bathroom of one house. Filled the gaps with clear mastic, thinking the stain would cover.
It did, sort of. But when the kitchen underneath had the ceiling downlighters turned on, I gt a lit up floor in bathroom!!
& have used B&Q white floor paint on staiurs at last house & it's standing the wear pretty good.
