Would you live 300m from a motorway?

I went to look at a place today that's pretty good apart from being 300m from a motorway. That's actually a reasonable distance - it's several streets of houses away. Noise levels weren't too high. I just wonder whether it would bug me. Clearly 100s of people in the estate don't find it too bad.
I have been spending 2 Sundays a month working on a mountain bike trail and that's right by the motorway. I don't really notice the noise any more.

Would I?
I think I do.
It sounds like the sea when the wind is in the right direction. don't hear it most of the time.0 -
I'm 400 meters from a motorway, two hundred meters from a dual carriage way, and 50 meters from an overpass. Its not too bad - you do get used it. I looked at a place _right_ next to a motorway, that was pretty intrusive...0

I think we're closer than that ... Maybe 200m -- ok it's the bypass rather than a full on motorway so only seriously busy during rush hour ... but I'm usually in that rush hour and it's a relief to be able to be straight at home. No noise at night ... hardly hear it during the day when home.0

Yes - that's the price you [ay for a better property - there's always a downside.
I once lived 20 feet from a mainline railway into London. By the third night I never heard another train and we sold the peoperty at profit.
If you want the property go for it - someone will always want itTotal debt at 01/01/2010 £34,262 (Excludes mega mortgage) Daily interest £12.42

I live about 300 meters from the M4 and you cant hear it from outside my house although it is lined with a tree hedge, not sure how much diffrence this makes!0

I'd happily live right next to a railway line, but motorways I'm not so keen on.Happy chappy0

I think it would depend on whether the motorway was higher than, or lower than, the house - and what sort of banking/noise barriers were along that stretch.
I wouldn't be keen to be at a point lower than any structure or road because I'd think that fumes, dirt, water run off would come in my direction.
I once arranged to see a house that was a right bargain, it had been bought brand new about 3 months before and had been carpeted throughout and all the garden done - and he was selling in a hurry to go back up north because of family illness, so it was about £13k less than he'd paid (it was £97k). I turned into the road and realised there was a main road at the bottom of the garden and all the cars were at roof height.
I didn't fancy the fact that in the summer, when that road was at a standstill and I was in the garden I'd be sat there with all of them looking back at me ... and when it rained heavily, all the road filth/etc would fall down into the garden area.0 -
I reckon I live about 150m-200m to a major A road/bypass so not as busy as a motorway and it's not a problem. I can't hear the road at all in the house (although obviously can if the windows are open or if sitting in the garden, but it's not intrusive at all) and must admit that I haven't noticed any impact of dirt from the road or lingering dirt in the air.No trees were killed to send this message, but a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced. - Neil deGrasse Tyson (@neiltyson)0
