What happens if the mot is a couple of weeks out? After a crash I need to take in my documents to the Police station. I have tax, insurance etc but MOT expired end of May. What action will they take if I have "lost" my MOT certificate?

Using a vehicle on the road, without mot.
Although there is no specific code, you could be charged with MS60.

Even if you have 'lost' your MOT the system for them now is computerised so they may be able to tell that it has run out!

Was the crash your fault?Weight Loss - 102lb0 -
Your insurance is usually invalid when your MOT is out as well.
Dont worry though, the fine you will get will probably be less than the cost of your MOT anyway. Remember the justice system rewards you nowadays for breaking the law

Oh dear. It was probably noted when I got my tax last time. I'm screwed.
I am 100% convinsed the crash was not my fault, but the other party are saying the same thing. I got photos though.
It's gonna cost me, but at least no one got hurt.0 -
I would guess that your insurance will not pay, as you were driving illegally!
Best of luck sorting it out. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Awkward situation but a mistake that anyone coudl easily make. The DVLA send us reminders for tax discs but there is nothign of the sort for the MOT. With the tax disc, its also staring you in the face everytime you walk up to the car so you always remember it.
As you the MOT only ran out about a week ago, they might be lenient. At least it wasnt liek 6 months out of date or anythign. If you found my comment helpful, please click the 'Thanks' button below :T0 -
Surely the accident happened "whilst you was on your way to the MOT station, for your pre booked MOT"(".)0

A mistake anyone could make my A@@e, this fool was driving illegally no MOT=No insurance. They should confiscate your car and crush it you muppet. What if in your accident you had crippled someone they would have been left without any recourse.
I'm fed up of people making excuses for not obeying the law.. I only had two pints your honour and I thought that would be OK..or..I thought I didn't need a licence as I was driving my motorbike of road. If your memory is that much of a sieve I suggest you take your driving licence stick it in an envelope address it to

Not far from true there Steve, I got stopped with no MOT, an oversight as I think the MOT is the only compulsory bill that you don't get e reminder for, no excuse I know but an easy mistake to make, I was summoned to Court for,1, driving without an MOT and 2, failing to produce an MOT certificate !! An MOT at the time was £29:10 and my fine.........£30 total, no costs, a strong deterent eh?
The insurance issue seems to depend on the company, some policies state the car must have a curernt MOT some dont, the police didnt charge me with no insurance or invalid insurance with no MOT so it cant be "illegal" but will give the insurance company another reason to wriggle out of paying, or more likely reduce the pay out.0 -
I'm lucky, I found a local garage who still send out reminders about 21 days before the MOT is due
- one advantage of using a small independant family run garage where the customer is still valued
Prior to that, I accidentally let my MOT slip too, only for a few weeks but it's easily done and overlooked, especially if you have more than one car in the household.
With all of this new computerised technology afloat to keep tabs on the Motorists wouldn't it make a nice change if this database could be used to send a courtesy reminder to the owner, rather than just as a means of Big Brother keeping tabs on your motoring habits.
[Sarcasm]Mind you, nothing in this country is ever introduced to make our life easier is it[/sarcasm]0
