ZC - I'm ones of those sad g*ts that watch BB and the LF (hangs head in shame). I could watch petie sleep aaaaallllll nightSorry to hear about school asking for the paragraph from FIVE weeks ago. I'm sure its very important to them etc etc but in the grand scheme of things time has moved on. Hot bath for the back
and some occasional gentle movements to stop it stiffening up
So does vigorous exercise in the morning count?
KP - I do co-operate with the school. Although they often seems to forget that I work full -time and are not always available at the drop of the hat. Plus when I request something specific I get all the we can't afford it. ATM I feel DS needs alot of help with his severe dyslexia. I keep getting the line that he's gets all the help he needs at school (scribes, helpers reading things for him etc). In 4/5 years he's going to out in the big bad world with no idea how to spell and with the reading ability of a 7 years old, but hey that's OK as the school doesn't have a dedicated dyslexia teacher ATM.
I want him to drop french, so his not taking as many subjects and could use the spare time to work on homework or get help for the dyslexia. What do I get - we don't have enough staff to cover this. They do an excellent job, but ......
Gee it is getting cold. I'm not impressed it's only the start of August and I'm already thinking about jumpers and thick socks ( as I can't afford to put the heating on).

Sounds like the school aren't really equipped to cope with him, are there any others in the area with good learning support departments? Our school have a reputation for being good in that area so we do get a lot of kids with "special needs" (inverted commas because its a term I hate - my own son has been registered "special needs" before even starting school!). Dedicated dyslexia teachers must be really hard to find. We do find though that our learning support kids like languages as they are taught together by great teachers who do specially differentiated lessons concentrating on spoken language rather than written or vocab terms. We do however have a homework club and when they move into KS4 they can choose one of their options as "support option" which means they get 3 hours a week concentrating on their coursework with support and are doing 1 less GCSE class. Maybe that is a future option for your son.
I would keep pushing them or see if there is better help elsewhere, even an oversubscribed school has places becoming available throughout the year for all sorts of reasons (I found out today 2 places have become available due to a fatal car crash). I guess I am very lucky to be working in a school that is good with all pupils, excellent exam results and excellent learning support.
I'm sure your school see you as supportive and downfall is that their own systems are not good enough for your needs. The best things in life are NOT free - but they sure are cheaper with MSE!:j0 -

Urbs my OH won't see a doctor either, he had counselling for a while last year after he tried to kill himself but although he said it helped at first he just stopped going after a couple of weeks. He is depressed now. Oh and Capital One have phoned again for him today - thats the Capital One that I've paid off twice in the last 6 months and he promised the card had been cut up.....Must just be a courtesy callThe best things in life are NOT free - but they sure are cheaper with MSE!:j0

Oh and he phoned the police today to report the mugging, I told him that he could claim on the insurance and his unwillingness to do so made me wonder about the mugging, he can't afford to lose £200 so why not report and claim? He said it was too late, I said never too late as he could just say he was ashamed to admit a big bloke like him had got mugged. Now its reported I better make the claim. The best things in life are NOT free - but they sure are cheaper with MSE!:j0 -
