Hi,

I walked into my local Orange Shop today (Basildon, Essex) as I wanted to get a Pay Monthly SIM for my iPhone 3GS which is shortly being UNLOCKED by O2.

A advisor asked if he could help which I said yes. Ran through the tariffs with me.. although I already had done my homework of course so knew what I wanted.

I asked about MMS/Media Message bundles! He told me what the price per MMS but then stated it doesn't matter as the iPhone doesn't support MMS!

Huh? I've had an iPhone 3G and have an iPhone 3Gs - I know my iPhones! OK, before software v3.0, he's right it didn't!

I stated it does.. he stated it didn't!

He went onto say that he's got an iPhone 3GS(!) and doesn't do MMS! I said yes.. it does..! He said no it doesn't and was quite arrogant about it! I said ever since v3.0 software MMS *IS* supported by the iPhone..!

At that point, I decided to call it a day..! I truly wanted to make a complaint but calmed down within a few minutes. They lost my custom.. in the shop at least!

I could have been after a 32G iPhone on the top tariff and could have been put off by this idiot.

I assume Orange do support MMS on the iPhone?

I've been happily sending MMS's with pictures and videos for months now! And not Jailbroken!
If I've help in anyway, please remember to thank me :-)

No you're right, it's only the original iPhone (2G) that doesn't support it. My guess is he was trying to get you on another tariff or phone....

I was 100% sure I was correct - but this guy works in the Orange Shop, surely - he should know a basic thing like that. Especially if he's got one! :-)

Mine is an original 3g and definitely does MMS.

You'll find some shop advisors like that though, don't know a thing, happens everywhere and it's just a shame it was in an Orange store. Took River Island fifteen minutes to find me a hat from out the back and even then I knew their stock better than the assistant did, she didn't have a clue what I was talking about!

It would so so bad lufcgirl but he just was so adamant he was right. G'awd! I wanted to stamp on foot to make he listen to me! :-) I was going to tell him I could do his job better than him! LOL.

Am I right that Orange do a similar thing as O2 with regards to BT OpenZone?

Can you buy a 'bundle' to give you access to these? Obviously comes free with O2 with an iPhone tariff. But I'll be buying a SIM only with Orange so thought it might be an add-on?

  • may i just add, you dont necessarily need to get a SIM only with orange or o2 to operate an iphone.

But off track, but i had to place my own order at B&Q because the assistant didn't know how to use the system, then again i am a computing student so can fathom out most user interfaces :)

There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies

When I do an iPhone on upgrade and change the tariff to an iPhone tariff it comes up with BT Openzone, and you get a username and password sent out for it.

Haven't a clue how it works for a non iPhone tariff though!

I just said "I think we better leave it there .." and he looked at me as if so say typical customer, think they know it all.

Um, in this case - I did! lol
