but if you gave it to your friends it would cost them LESS than if they buy the milk at full price
i knowand i wish i could... but we're really tight for money (hence OH thinking he was doing me a favour), and i can't really afford the hour's round trip, petrol wise, without a good reason at the mo

White sauce uses alot of milk and it can be used with alot of dinners.
- over vegetables like broccoli and cauliflower
- with left over chicken/ham and some sweet corn
- in lasagne
I'd imagine it would freeze quite well too.
Homemade yoghurt is also good, it's easy to make and it can make a nice desert with some jam or fruit stirred through, or made into smoothies..0 -
How about giving some to the neighbours so that you can get to know them?
I live in a lane with only 8 houses and I don't know all of the neighbours that well, but would have no problem knocking on the door giving them some milk. And I would give it away, because lets face it, you're not going to use all that milk with no freezer space.
You never know, the neighbours might do something kind for you in the future.

I know what you mean Donna - but i'm really quite shy... and the thought of knocking on their doors offering them bottles of milk, when we barely say hello to each other usually, terrifies me!
LOL

How about doing a Cleopatra and bath in it?0

Beki
What about sending hubbie round? (that would teach him not to buy 76 pints of milk again!) :rotfl:

Becki,
Your neighbours are not going to think you strange for knocking on their door and explaining that you have extra milk and could they use it. They will probably welcome it and see it as a friendly gesture. Please try to get over your shyness and do it rather than waste so much milk. If you don't feel that you can then ask your OH to give the milk away.....it may make him think twice the next time he decides to bulk buy without thinking about how such a large amount could be used.

oops Donna, didn't see your post before I posted.0 -
On my list so far (thanks to you all) is...
* white sauce - i can make enough for maybe 4 lasagnes, and give half to my mum, make one, and freeze the other when i've taken something out of the freezer
* scones - they'll be gone within a day or two so no fear about freezing them lol
* quiche - i can make 3... eat one, give one to mum, and freeze one if i make them later in the week when something else has gone out of the freezer
* milk bread/cob - again, will be eaten quickly, so no fear about freezer space
* yorkshire pudding/toad in the hole - will be eaten on the night
* bread and butter pudding - can make it with some more milk bread/cob, plus milk for the custard... we can eat it over 2 nights for pudding (we don't usually eat pudding so this will be a nice treat). i could also make some for mum which i'm sure she'll appreciate (mum lives next door)
* and it won't hurt the kids to have a few glasses extra a day for a week
* coco (our dog) might enjoy a bowl for breakfast some days
so thanks everyone! i think i'm sortedxxxx

Do you have any cake/biscuit recipes that have milk in?
I seem to remember some gingerbread recipes have milk in, and there is impossible pie.
Also, custard and blancmange and angel delight for tea. After a soup with milk in or a meal with white sauce or a variant.
Milky coffee and or a lovely cup of milky cocoa before bed.
Also, it may be possible to continue to use the milk for a day or two after the 'use by' date, as the milk does not turn toxic at midnight.
I would definitely look to use it up in baking, to prolong the life. Also yorkshire pudding? Pancakes?
Also plan a few milk free days after the milk is used up, for the sake of sanity.
