The coverage maps are a bit iffy.

My mate had full signal all the time, then they built a block of flats at the end of his road (between him and the closest mast) and now he only gets 1 or 2 bars. The coverage map still says he on full signal (because there's no feedback from developers so the networks take a while to find out).

The best way is to test an Orange phone where you need it to work, either get a mate on Orange to come round or get a free Orange payg sim and try that and see what you get.

    Hi,

I can't speak for the returns team, you'll need to contact them to resolve your issue and understand your options - but to clear up one constant error I see all over the place, contacting us (about anything, but especially about returns) does not invalidate Quidco cashback. Once your order is placed via Quidco the tracking is in place, your order will always remain a "quidco sourced" order and cashback will be payable no matter what.

In this case it seems that you have delayed contacting us because of this misunderstanding - can I ask where you got this impression from?

The other problem is that my number is currently being ported from my vodafone number to O2 today.

If I cancel O2, then where does that leave me with my old Vodafone no. ?

    Does it disappear completely ?

Im 50/50 about what to do.

The other thing is I dont plan to be in this job too long so hope to be working somewhere else soon, down south.

Why are things never simple !

You know that if you have a WiFi access point in your house you can use this on your iPhone?

I don't know what happens with ports when a cancellation is requested but if you start off by clicking "Click Here for Help" on the left of our website and follow the Returns option you should get an answer either from the site or the Returns team.

Thanks for your reply mobiles.co rep.

    Regards,

I cant recall exactly where I saw it, but it might have been on the Quidco website or on these forums.

If I cancel the O2 subscription then surely the quidco cashback would be cancelled ?

Anyway, I will send the returns team at mobiles.co.uk an email.

Its frustrating, because Im happy with the phone.

I just want it to be able to work round the places I go to... and especially at work !

The problem is you dont find this out until you actually have the phone.

And as ive now found out the signal is not that good, I now have the hassle of sending it back and reordering.

I think I already know the answer to this, but could I keep the phone but simply change network from O2 to Orange ?

Could you not cancel the O2 sim card and send an Orange sim card ?

Think ive just answered my own question - the iPhone is locked to the network provider isnt it !

So I would have to send the phone back.

Yeh I already have this setup.

But the issue is more the fact you pay all that money to be on a 3G network but cant get 3G most the time.

And apparently its not that simple to compare the coverage maps between networks, because alot of the time these are inaccurate as well.

Ive noticed they use the trick to say things like it covers 99% of the "population", NOT 99% of the "country" - thats a big difference.

For example, if 99% of the "population" lived in london, then that means if you were to go outside london you wouldnt get a signal.

But when you see 99% of the "population" you naturally assume its 99% of the "country", but it aint !

Why dont all networks get together and share their 3G to provide a better service to all their customers.

Ive contacted mobiles.co.uk to see what my options are, so ill post the response when I get it later today.

Still not sure whether to stick it out with O2 or change over to Orange tho (if I have the option to return the phone).
  • Of course the Quidco will be cancelled if the contact is stopped.
They aren't going to pay £60 commission to you if their commission is taken back by the mobile provider...

Had a response from mobiles.co.uk and it isnt good news.

    They said....

"We are only able to return a handset due to signal after getting confirmation from the network that there is no/lack of signal in your area.

I have called O2 who have confirmed that there should not be any problems with signal in your area which leaves me not being able to return your handset as O2 will not be able to terminate the contract.

Could you check if there is a problem with the handset by putting your sim card in another handset and seeing if signal is OK with this phone as there might be a fault with your handset.

If there is still lack of signal after placing the sim in another phone please contact O2 as i have done all i can to try and get confirmation of lack of signal."

I went outside at lunch time and got a signal and 3G.

It seems that its only when inside the building at work that I can barely get a signal.

My Vodafone number has now been ported across to O2 as well now.

So it looks like Im stuck with this and will just have to put up with it, as frsutrating as it is.
