iPhone on O2 - poor signal & 3G - can I get refund ?

I took the plung and bought the iPhone on O2 instead of Orange because

1 - Orange have a 750MB limit on the data download
2 - Orange customer service is suppose to be far worse than O2
3 - O2 offer a good broadband package for mobile customers

However, having had the iPhone for 5 days Im getting a little concerned about being on O2 because of the signal and 3G coverage.

At work (in Stone in Staffordshire) I can barely get a signal to use the phone as a phone, nevermind 3G !

Although its strange because the odd time I can get a full signal AND 3G, but then when I try to use the phone the 3G disappears and the signal almost disappears.

At home I get a signal but no 3G.

Without 3G alot of the the iPhone functionality does not work, because after all its an internet device.

To make things worse, I am in the process of porting my number from my old phone on Vodafone which should be completed today.

At work I get a full signal on Vodafone, where as when my number ports accross to O2 I will barely get a signal.

So in effect I dont even have a mobile phone now when Im at work.

So I am starting to wonder if I should have gone with Orange.

What are my rights regarding this ?

Is it possible to get a refund from O2 ?

I read somewhere that someone got a £5 per month discount from O2 due to receiving a poor signal.

Im tied into an 18 month contract and if I cant even use my iPhone as a phone (never mind for the internet) I will not be happy.

  • Isn't there a cooling off period of 14 days with mobile phones?

I bought it online, late at night, on Thursday 12th November.

From mobiles.co.uk using Quidco for cashback.

Who do I contact about returning the phone ?

    O2 or mobiles.co.uk ?

If I contact mobiles.co.uk and they wont allow me to send the phone back, then Im likely to loose the £60 cashback from Quidco.

So I will need to be sure I can send the phone back before contacting them.

The phone is great, its just the signal and 3G on O2 that bothers me.

So I would probably exchange it for an Orange iPhone.

But I would have to order online again to get cashback from Quidco.

I think you're too late. If you ordered on the 12th and it's now the 20th you're a day out... Unless they processed the ordered the next day, in which case you're on the last day now.

You need to check the date on the order. If it's the 13th you have a chance. . .

As Andy says, start the returns process now. By the look of it you're a few days in the 7 day period (and it may be 14). But call them now and get it logged...

My worry is, will the Orange signal be better than O2 ?

Its alot of hassle to send it back and then reorder via quidco to get it on orange.

But if its going to improve my signal im prepared to do it.

So whats the likely hood of Orange having a better signal ?

    Check your coverage

    http://search.orange.co.uk/ouk/portal/coveragechecker.html

O2 as a company have a 14 day return policy not 7 days. But Mobiles.co.uk maybe different.
