Name and shame the pub on here.
I suggest your friend write to the landlord asking for an explanation for his decision and state if he is not prepared to do this they will contact the media, resulting in adverse publicity for the pub…0 -
As an aside, my Mum & Dad (in their 60's) last year were banned for life from a local chip shop restaurant they used to attend regularly simply becuase my Dad (aka, Victor Mildrew) complained about the portion size of chips to the owner. Dad was livid so i can well understand the OP's position if an innocent family have been poorly treated - but OP needs to pinpoint the catalyst of the problem.
Unless he swore or was agressive, that is totally unacceptable.0 -
I'm NOT going to assume your answer is aimed JUST at me, despite the fact that you have quoted my post only. I didn't ADVISE the family to go to the press, I said they could do.
If the family have been barred because of the age of their son then we
can presume the pub does have a strict no under 18s policy. Fair enough. Landlords have a right not to serve any 'customers'; any business can choose who it cares to deal with but may NOT make those decisions based on grounds which could be perceived as discriminatory.
Chances are though that, having frequented this pub for 6 months this family have been disappointed by this decision.
Valli - My post was just a general post aimed at everyone who is taking part in this thread, I just chose to quote your point, as you previously chose to quote myself.
However, from your above post, you mention discrimination. Only because the OP decided to tell us that "the lads disabled", does anybody begin to think that there is discrimination.
If the family was being discriminated against, why would the landlord have let the family in the pub every week for the past 6 months without any problem?
I suspect we don't know the full story, especially as this is just the OPs view on something he has heard from his mate.0 -
If there is genuinely no legitimate reason for the boy to be barred, and the landlord refuses to give a genuine reason, I think the press is an excellent idea?
Bigotry and prejudice against the disabled has no place in our modern society and if this really is the reason he has been barred, I hope the landlord is shamed and he goes out of business.
Serves him right.
did you read the post properly? The landlord barred the whole family and stated quite clearly it was not because the lad was disabled...

When I was 14 I went to a chain pub with my parents. Despite the fact we had gone there several times before a member of staff came over and started yelling at us to leave, as I was underage. Parents pointed out I was drinking a soft drink, was accompanied by adults, and it wasn't even evening yet. They even offered to purchase a meal if that would make them more willing to let me stay there. The member of staff kicked us out anyway, and when my parents said "well we're finishing our drinks first" she said "no you're not" and pointed us to the door. The rest of the staff had no problem serving us, well aware that I was underage and drinking pop.
Whilst this could be what happened to your friend and his family- it doesn't quite add up without the full facts. Presumably the landlord had been serving them ages before, and may even have poured them their drinks on that occasion? If there is no good reason the landlord banned them, definitely suggest they take it up with their local paper. The journalists would rip him apart and (assuming these events read true of course) people would avoid going to this pub in future, and the landlord would learn a harsh lesson. He certainly owed them a reason before humiliating them that way.0 -
I think the OP must still be in the pub cos he has not answered any posts:beer::beer:I

Just a thought and it's a long shot but did the parents of the lad give him anything alcoholic to drink while they were in the pub? The landlord may have seen and not wanting to lose his licence, barred the lot of them...0

I think the OP has heard only half the story.0
