The unfortunate thing is that we cannot afford for my wife to go BR too, so she will have to wait for the new year!
I feel bad about it, but i have the biggest debt IR and it needs sorting right now.
I suppose the only upside is that she keeps her active bank account for a while.
At least you are being sensible about it and not trying to get both lots of money together and having to wait for ages.
If you open a Co-op Cashminder or Barclays Cash account now, it will be up and running quickly and you will have and account you can use that the OR will have no interest in (unless you live in Brighton.) and won't be frozen by the bank. If it is then they usually sort it within 24 hours.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -
I went to Barclays, thought I should stike while the iron is hot!
They were fantastic, opened a cashacard account there and then and cannot believe the relief of at least having that bit out of the way - I have an acct no. and sort code!
I explained that I was planning to go BR next week and that I needed the account not be frozen. I can do no less than thouroughly recommend them.
Quick question however - should I pay my salary in to this acct (as paid next Fri should go through OK) or should it be dormant for OR to take no interest?
Thanks - a good day today0 -
By the way sorry for sounding thick - but what is it about Brighton I am missing?0

You will have no problems if you have your wage put in and DD's and SO's to go out. Just make sure thr is not to much cash in it the day you petition.

Well the OR can declare no interest in one of your accounts so you can continue to keep your affairs in order and make everything run smoothly. The Brighton OR takes a strictr view and won't declare any account as no interest to him . Though Co-op have been brilliant at sorting out a new account and shifting paynents across for those affected.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -
Ho Korben, havent read all the posts, but I know that everyone will be so supportive and helpful.. Just wanted to say that I had debt round my neck for 11 years and with no way to pay it, when I finally went BR, it was the biggest relief I have eveer had,
(apart from the divorces haha!) and be warned, you might get tearful again... I yelled my eyes out!
Good luck, and here's to a happier future xHe who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.

Hi Korben, the guys posting advice are great, and most if not all have been through BR already or are about to. I am now 2 months discharged from mine, and with hindsight the best advice I can give you is the following....1. I know its easier said than done but this really isnt worth your health, so try not to worry to much as it really isnt that bad a process its you that makes you feel bad. 2. Get yourself a pre paid credit card, the biggest pain in the !!! about BR is the lack of switch card! I have an 02 card and a virgin one which come in very handy and cant get me in debt. 3. If your credit rating is still ok ish, get all contracts for mobile, home phone, internet, gas elec, etc sorted now, as when you go BR you will struggle to change any of them. That would be my advice for now, hope all goes well for you

This will sound ridiculous, I am a grown man with a family.
However I could not help myself and broke down last night, luckily was able to get out of the way so that my son did not see.
I have no choice, but to go bankrupt, but anyone who thinks that we are taking an easy way out need to think again!
I know once I have done it I will feel nuch better, but it is very frightening, especially when you are already so stressed over finances.
Just had to tell someone and this feels like a place to do it.
Thanks
Hi korben, we all bleed and there is no shame in a good cry.

Not long got back from the Dr`s She was very nice listened to all I had to say, ended up doubling the dose of anti depressents that I am on. Was quite positive in her attitue, new start, thousands in the same position, not the same stigma attached to BR as once was before. All in all came out feeling better, just got to finish these flaming forms now

Hi dojoman,
It's so good to hear your Dr's words and to know you're now assured that it's not just you who's going through it. I wish you well dojo, and well done for doing what you knew was best, and going to your Dr. We should all remember that they're always there for us.
Hi Korben,
As you already know, there aren't many of us here who haven't been through some sort of financial stress over the past few years, but we come through it all and move on to live far better and 'richer' lives as a result. By 'richer' I mean that we're richer in knowledge and compassion and know full well what it feels like to have walked in the shoes of others. That's why it's so easy for us to be able to sympathise with you, also we all can assure you that some day very soon you'll be feeling so much better about life. You have your family, you're blessed!
Never worry about tears, as 'Lost2' says a good cry is better than any medicine and gives us such great relief, so whenever you feel that way, let go of the tears knowing you'll soon feel so much better as a result of doing so. There's no shame in it, not even for a man, and it's far better than trying to bottle things as it only makes it all worse!
All the very best to you both.
