Beware of AQuote insurance online

  • I'm yet another AQuote victim! A basic motorcycle insurance taken out with them before passing my full test. I passed my test and called them to tell them. No problem the partly disinterested "call processer" said. Then when she amended the detail was dissapointed that the actual insurer (AVIVA in this case) did not charge any more on the policy for the change as she said they would have charged 15% of the insurers additional fee plus £25 "admin" fee just to make a small change "Just the £25 admin fee to pay then" she said for nothing but a tick in a box on a screen. When I asked her if this was really correct she just recited that "their terms & conditions state that ...etc...etc". They get your businmess with a competitive price and wait for any slight change and then absolutly rip you off! I will be changing at the end of my policy in May 2010 - Perhaps I should email them in advance now - Dec 09 for May 2010! I feel so angry that they were so smug about it. As though "we've got you legally so tough luck"!
PLEASE AVOID THEM UNLESS YOU CAN BE SURE NO CHANGES TO YOUR POLICY AT ALL.
  • would just like to bring to your attention the situation that I have been through in the last three weeks.
I have an insurance policy with Aquote for full comp which is fully paid for on a 125ccc motorcycle as I was a learner rider, having passed my motorcycle test on the 20/03/10 I rang the insurance company (Aquote) for a quote on a larger motorcycle just to see what the cost would be and what maximum size engine I would be willing to insurer myself for.
The assistant put me on hold for a few minutes and returned to say I owed them £17.82 because I had passed my motorcycle test and would be removing the L plates, I said this is not right I should have been given a reduction on the policy not be penalized.
The excuse I got was because I was removing the L plates other drivers would not give me as much room as a learner rider so subsequently I was more of a risk on the road, in the end I paid the £17.82 reluctantly as I did not wish to go against the policy rules, I also asked them to be aware that I was looking for numerous quotes on different motorcycles within the next two weeks.
when I finally found the new motorcycle I wished to purchase they quoted me an astronomical price to insure it so I searched elsewhere and found it cheaper when I contacted Aquote with regards to a refund on the insurance as the policy ran until 15/09/10 I was told that I was not entitled to any refund, so I asked about a refund on the £17.82 that I paid them less than a week earlier and they refused that also, I told them about my findings that all the other insurance companies that I had spoken to about this ridiculous charge because I was not displaying L plates said they would not have charge for this and I have been taken for a ride by my insurance company
And because I got annoyed with Aqoute they refused to pass on my details to my new insurance company who require the verification of six years no claims.
I would just like you to be aware of this as I feel outraged by this action and that a joyful occasions of passing my test was marred by the fact that an insurance company can get away with such under handed behaviour and if possible is there anything I can do to warn other Motorcyclists of this shameful insurance company so they do not fall foul of it.

  • I wish I had read all this before buying (cheap?)car insurance through Aquote - I am now being refunded a quarter of my premium for cancelling my insurance after 3 months. Never again. I will be telling all my friends and acquaintances and also any strangers who will listen!

I really do wish i had seen these before buying insurance from Aquote.
I first went online to find bike insrance and Aquote came up with a good deal, they then pestered me via the phone to buy the product, this i did but as it was to early to start the policy i ased if they would call me closer to the start date, this they said would do. Well no call, so i had to call them.
Then 2 months in to the policy i get a letter from them stating that due to a software issueno money had been taken out of my account! (apparently i am the only one that this has happend to!!)
Well i asked to set up the payments and speak to a supervisor, the payments were set up without delay, no suprise there! but the supervisor would call back within 4 hours. Wait for it..... NO call back!!
I called again and the same was promised, and yes you guessed it, NO call!!
I called again and was told that one of the complaints team would ring me bck between 9.00am and 12noon. Mmmm NO call again.
I called again ( i hope your keeping score) and asked to speak to a supervisor, i was told a call back within 4 hours! not happy with this i asked to speak to a supervisor and after being on hold was told that she was to busy, so i asked again, this time i was told she refused to speak to me!! WOW great customer service.
I then recieved a call from them, good job i was sitting down! this consisted of a well scripted load of customer service BS.
This went down the route of i need to check your previous call and listen to the recording, well when he rang back there was no recording to found!! Really!!!!!
The end result was them offering me £10 off my policy and £10 for all the calls and agro!
Not good enough so i have done the deal where as when i find another policy i will cancell this one with NO admin charges and nothing to pay for the exsiting time left on the policy!
Complain, threaten to go to the FSA, and keep on at them, they do give in.
I have now cancelled my policy, and as requested by Aquote i emaild them the details of when i wanted it to end, 30th June 2010 was the end date sent to them, they cancelled it on the 29th June 2010 thus leaving me uninsured for a day, and what did i do? rode the bike as i was unaware that the policy had been stopped!
Then the cancellation letter came throughand stated that the reason for cancelling was due to Non payment of policy, a lie! I will be persuing the complaints procedure through to the bitter end.
  • I initally got my insurance with Aquote and the deal was good. However due to an accident with a circular saw ( will spare the graffic details ) i couldn't ride my bike, thumbs being important!! So i SORN'd the bike and didn't renew the insurance. I told them this and thought that was the end of it. However i now discovered they renewed the policy ( no documents sent ) and Aquote continued to take the direct debit. I should have noticed the £10 a month going out of my bank account but did have more important things to worry about. Now i am left trying to get my money back for an insurance i didn't need. i have learned two lesson. If its a lot cheaper than than the rest its for a reason. YOU PAY FOR WHAT YOU GET. oh and DeWALT make very sharp saws!!!

My OH has used A Quote for years for his van, we have never had any problems, infact they have been extremely helpful, giving extra no claims on second policy etc.

They do renew automatically, but we have always had a letter about a month before and then another 7 days before to notify us.

As the van is off the road, we currently cancelled it 2 days before renewal was going to place and it was cancelled no problem.

A lot of insurers do this instant renewal now, Elephant, Shelia's Wheels, which I don't really like, I shop around for cheaper policies each year for a car and often change to a cheaper deal....my advice...cancel the direct debit!!!
    :hello:
  • i have just cancelled my policy with these idiots which started on 20th september, after taking 2 monthly installments from my bank, i then get a letter telling me that the premium had gone up £30 a month as they had made a mistake, this is someone with 9 years no claims and paying £80 a month for an omega. They did not offer any money back, in fact tried to tell me i owed them £300 to cancel, i don't think so!!! I have been with these idiots for the last 18 months and have had nothing but grief and horrendous admin charges, they even told me at one point to buy a decent car so that i did not need to keep changing my vehicle, unfortunately i am not made of money like a quote think i am. Definately will not go with A quote ever again!!!

Something very similar has just happened to me.
I have had my motorbike insured via AQUOTE with KGM as AQUOTE came up top at a comparison site. I had not heard of them.
As I can remember they were very slick in setting everything up, then took money off the Credit Card. The year was uneventful.
This year they sent a renewal letter probably a month before the renewal date. They looked expensive and uncompetitive and I had thrown their letter away.
My renewal date fell on a sunday and I assumed the bike was not insured on the sunday but did not have to use it anyway and it was locked up safely in a garage.
On the monday I rang round for quotes and got a 26% cheaper deal from an insurer I had been with before.

A month later my credit card statement says AQUOTE and the renewal price. So I rang them to complain. They claimed "AUTOMATIC RENEWAL" was normal. If I do not reply they will sign me up whether I want it or not.
They now wanted to see a current insurance - I do not know why this should be their business, but anyway... - sent a copy.
As the current certificate starts a day after their own proposed renwal date, they claimed they had provided a day's worth of cover and as I only "CANCELLED" my contract a month after the start they will only refund 75% of the premium.
This is an insurance contract I had not signed up to or consented to take out.
This is a premium which was not competitive.
They took money off a credit card without consent.

    Again BEWARE AQUOTE insurance brokers.

I also found that they are part of the CAPITA group who provide one of the worst PAYROLL service ever.

i took insurance out in mid-december, still not received any documents as yet, each time i phone they say they have technical problems and will send out or have sent out documents and i will receive them soon.
still waiting, all emails do not go thru
i made the unfortunate mistake of paying them for full year, or i could have stopped the DD and cancelled the insurance.
has anyone else had same problems with them.
i now need the certificate for tax purposes and do not know what to do.
    Nice to save.
