Beware of AQuote insurance online

Options
If buying insurance on line, keep away from AQuote as their terms and conditions are not shown on site and are very unfavourable. I am having to take them to the Small Claims Court for money they owe me.

I would be interested to hear from anyone who has used AQuote and has good or bad reports on them.

  • I also have an issue with Aquote, I had to cancel my motor policy with five months still remaining. I was told that although the Insurance company refund would be £71 they, Aquote, would take about £40 of that in fees and commissions and that they reserve the right no to issue refunds of less than £50. The operator claims its in their "Term & Conditions" but I can't find it. After protesting they said they would refund me £30. I think a call to Trading Standards or the FSA might be in order. Yes, cheap insurance but don't expect anything back if you need to cancel.
  • Hello, i am also having problems with Aquote although mine have just started. I wondered how you were getting on with your claim? Bethan

I to had problems with Aquote.

I took out insurance with them just before my holidays last year. I went on holiday for a few weeks and when I came back I found out that they had requested proof of my no claims. Not much of a problem.

They sent four letters to me in August when I was away on holiday much of the time and when I did get back I put their letters to one side thinking they were just circulars. When I did eventually open them I tried to contact them to advise them that I would send the proof ASAP but could not get through to them on the phone.

Shortly after they cancelled my insurance and kept the full years premium. Not bad as they said I had not been insured at all during this period! I have been off the road since due to injury, but I got nowhere trying to get my money back.

I am taking out insurance again soon and Aquote is one company that I will not use, or one of their many aliases such as Hero Insurance Services.

  • I took out car insurance through Aquote (best online deal)in April on my old Skoda knowing I had to replace it within a few months.I expected a transference to be cheap and swift..........however I received no transferral credit from my old policy (£120 in April) and their transferral quote for my new car was £40 more than their online quote for 11months!
My cheapest option was to cancel the Skoda insurance -no refund as there was only £35 pounds credit due and this is swallowed by admin costs (in terms and conditions!) and take out new policy on line with aquote for £160!!Something surely amiss here!!In summary do not take out insurance through Aquote if there is any prospect of you having to change vehicle or cancel the insurance -maybe pay monthly but I bet there is some clause that you have to pay for 12 months or something like!Be warned!
  • I recieved a renewal letter from Aquote which stated that if I did not contact them they would automaticaly renew it. As my bike was Sorn and did not have an mot and I am too old now for a bike. I contacted them by phone and informed them my intention to sell and would not be renewing it. If I remember right the insurance was due for renewal on yhe 15th April 2009. About a month later I recieved a letter asking why I had not paid my first premium. I contacted the company who said I had not contacted them and demanded £20 cancelation fee. I contacted them and said as I had cancelled surely it was there fault and not mine and I should not be penilised for there mistake. I was then talked to in not a very nice manner and subsequently the conversation ended.I later recieved a letter asking for £20
I did not recieve any thing further until I recievd a letter from CREDIT RESOURCE SOLUTIONS (remember this name they are not very nice people) demanding £70 on behalf of Aquote they would appear to have bumped it up to cover their costs. This is is rising and the last letter has stated that a further £25 costs will be added . I have tried to speak to them on the phone but I was talked over by in my opinion a very bad mannered and nasty person. I tried several calls but was talked to in a very similar manner. I deal with pulic every day one to one and if I talked to them in that manner I would not have a job.
Sorry to rabbit on but I tried writting to them several times and recieved a letter saying on behalf of AQUOTE that if I could prove I sold the bike before or on the 20th April 2009 they would leave it at that. This I cant as the bike was sold on or about 24th April 2009 this I can prove. But surely they fact I didnt want to renew and they did renew is wrong. My wife is going nuts as it was here that told me to phone after recieving the original renwal letter .
What should I do just pay and in future ask everything to be put in writing and jot it up to the wee man in the street getting bumped again from the big company.Any ideas please
  • Yup,another Aquote victim here, whilst taking out car insurance with this bunch of lying toerags I honestly stated upfront that I would be looking to cancel within 2-3 months as I was selling the car on......"no problem,it's just an 11% commision" said "Michael" the salesman, I asked if that was all and he assured me "yes",wish I'd recorded that one now!
Having sent in my cancellation letter and received nothing I contacted them last week and "Steve" said he would personally look into it and listen to their recording of the call,he left a message this week to say "no refund due",ooh what a surprise!
Cut a long story short they add all sorts of additional charges to get your refund below £50 at which point they say they say they do not refund below £50.
It's not a lot of money,it's the principle and I will make sure that I badmouth this bunch of liars wherever possible............currently in touch with the FSA but not holding out a lot of hope, just want to warn others away:mad:

Ask for a break down of the return premium and any fees / charges in writing. Also ask for a copy of the Scheduloe showing the return of premium from the Insurer.

You can then check this against the fees etc they quote in the paper work

We cancelled our insurance with aquote as they wanted £70 a month for us to change the details of our policy 3months into the renewal.. We got another quote from a well know company with Aussie links which was £32 a month. so we cancelled the policy they demanded £104 for the cancellation and if it was not paid within 14 days they would refer it to a debt collector. we had no previous contact with them apart from the cancellation call to a letter sent 6 days later. I can not see how this company is still working. They should be shut down with everthing I have read about them and they should be investigated if they have so many complaints if this was a public company the goverment department concerned would be all over them for what they are doing. I am just glad we got out so we did not have to go through the hassle that other people are going through with claims
