Does it really matter that much  ??? ??? isn't there far more horrific things happening in the world, without concerning ones self about whether an apostrophe is in the correct place or not  ???  :(

equally, there are far worse things happening than people making comments about a post's grammar on a message board, but that's still inspired enough concern to fill 5 pages of discussion so far.

IMO the majority of the pages have been filled with nonsense posts and childish bickering, a game of who said this or that and what does this mean, totally irrellevent to the subject from the OP in my opinion,

the fact is that the OP was making a post about why people felt the need to pull others up on the correct or incorrect method of typing a post, when the fact of the matter is that it is just a forum where messages are posted, not an application for some top job etc,

this is a vent board, where everyone is given the opportunity to vent their concerns and/or thoughts, it doesn't have to turn into a slanging match. Also if ya wish to type correctly that is entirely an individual choice but no reason to have a go at other members who choose to type in a different manner

I agree - anyone who can't spell as well as me should be banned. Luckily everyone can - I still think Eats, Shoots and Leaves is about Pandas!

For the record, I have no intention of joining in a slanging match, but I think it's still valid to point out that constant, easily-corrected mistakes can be irritating to readers.

I haven't pulled up anyone for making mistakes in their posts - I just made a general comment, only on this thread, and even that wasn't "having a go" at anyone, just mentioning that it "grates" on me personally. I understand grammar can be complicated - I certainly make plenty of mistakes with it myself.

in the great scheme of things it isn't the most important topic in the world to discuss, but then neither would be telling your kids to tidy their rooms, complaining that your partner as not completed a task, getting your work done on time, etc etc,

however all that the people who don't like to be pulled up on their spelling, grammar etc are saying, is give us a break it is just a chat room, maybe it grates on us too when we are being made to feel inferior to those who are grammatically correct in everything they do. As the OP points out in they're first post, it can be very off putting to newbies if they feel there is a standard to uphold, when all we are really here to do is help others and enjoy the chat and company of others, wouldn't you agree.

Would you think any less of a friend if they couldn't spell correctly etc, i don't think you would, this thread was not aimed at you IMO but a general comment to anyone who does pull others up, i'm sorry if our mistakes grate on you, but unfortunately people type in different ways and always will do, and I can only reiterate what has been previously said, if the post is legible then isn't that really all that matters  ??? ???

It's obviously got nothing to do with the original subject anymore and everything to do with having a go.

Don't let other issues intrude on the point.......there's something on here I could cheerfully take issue with as it is such a hypocritical statement, but (a) it's not worth the bother and (b) the thread isn't about that.

Live and let live doesn't seem to be a motto much in abundance here at the moment does it? :-/
