I do have a question, however.. what sort of grammar are we talkin about? Grammars as in, nice older women who bake cookies and give good pressies? Or grammar as in how to write and stuff..

Exxxxxcellent.. Let me say, first of all, thank you for the welcome.

Second, let me say that my preference is for grammars that do not send you bras for Christmas. I have a grammar who sent me a bra about 5 sizes too small last Christmas.. was very disheartening. Of course.. should I ever regress to early puberty.. I will be set...

She does make good cookies though.. perhaps that's why the bra doesn't fit.. must ponder.. ::)

I really try not to mention it, but i have to admit it doe's grate on me every time someone put's in an apostrophe where there i's no call for one at all.

to me this is different from straightforward typos, as it takes extra effort to insert an additional character, and because posters usually make the mistake over and over and over again in one post.

it's usually clear that they aren't just being inserted as one-off slips, but that the poster doesn't understand when and why they should be used (and when they shouldn't!)

the rules about apostrophes really aren't hard to master, and getting them sorted - which would only take a couple of minutes - would mean these posters wouldn't make similar mistakes where it does matter.

I am happy to advise anyone on apostrophe use if they so desire

Does it really matter that much ??? ??? isn't there far more horrific things happening in the world, without concerning ones self about whether an apostrophe is in the correct place or not ???
