Get a job paying £20k a year net and not spend a penny for 50 years is an easy way. More chance of that than a day dreamI would like to thank everyone who contributed to the Ramada/Days Inn BRG thread.0

If I won a million, I'd pay off my remaining debt (see sig). Re-do Wales' smallest bathroom with tiles and even get the bath resurfaced. I'd finish off the roof and the outside of the house and plant a garden. Re-jig the house to turn the roof space into a master ensuite bathroom.
And I'd take a year off work to ensure it all goes to plan. I'd go back to work though - but turn my front bedroom into an art studio and set up my own business.
Oh and have the most almighty street party in our village and close off the roads so everyone who lives by me whether they've met me in the village or not, can have a good old knees up c/o Sassers. And all the kids would have toys too.

So my idea is to wait until the next thunderstorm, go outside, wait to be hit by lighning and if i get hit and survive take that as a sign to buy a lottery ticket. And if i don't survive i've saved myself a quid..very MSE :money:
So buy your ticket as late as possible, to avoid wasting your money.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Take up match betting or casino bagging. That'll get you quite a few £k.0

I spend too much time fantasising about winning a million pounds.
I already have mapped out what I would do with it. Im not into cars, big holidays etc.
I would pay off the mortgage and the last few debts, thats 80k give or take. then put 20k into doing up the rest of the house the way we want it.
then give each of the kids 100k. That now leaves 600k.
Then put 100k into a pension, planning for the next 20 years.
Then put 500k into an income paying thing, which even on about 5% should give me about 25k gross, which means I would give up work. I could survive on that.
OH would obviously continue to work(!)
So,,, its is the lottery, premium bonds, or what??
Are you my dad by any chance? I can't seem to have a conversation with my Dad unless it's lottery related and we're talking about what he's going to do with his winnings when he wins. He's constant with it, he'll dream about it and I would say we have a weekly conversation about 'what would you do with it' and 'when I win it you're going to get x amount of money per week put in your account' and 'if I win x amount of money I'll get x amount of interest and I can live on that'. He's got it all planned out on how much he's going to give to each family member (per week, he likes to have the conrtol over how much they can spend and stop them from blowing it, methinks). And he'd probably still send my mum out to work!0 -

My heart started beating really fast and I had butterflies in my stomach when I read what you'd written and started imagining how you felt!! I'm in bits and it wasn't even me! :rotfl:
Hubby and I have a flutter about 2-3 times a month and the rest of the time buy chocolate with our £1 of 'gambling' moneyWe NEVER check the numbers in between.
We have agreed we're telling no-one if we win because of how people can get really nasty about others with money. For around six months we'll keep it quiet. Hubby will give up his job after a couple of months and tell people he's taken early retirement when it was offered. We'll do the house up to sell and then downsize to a dream (read expensive) grade II listed cottage with a garden full of flowers and a big inglenook fireplace.
Then we'll think about telling our immediate families, but we'll downplay how much we won. It will be enough that we could pay off their mortgages etc, but not enough that other family and acquaintances start emerging from the woodwork with their hands out.
Hubby will buy back his sports car that he sold to pay for the double glazing and then find me a little old Nissan Figaro or a Morris Minor Traveller so I can go to my car boot sales and auctions in style! We'll set up funds to live off, funds for charity and funds for the family's children to have deposits for buying their first property.
In the meantime, we're putting plans into place to achieve all this anyway by the time we die, but the lottery will get us there faster."carpe that diem"0
