I'll be honest and say I am becoming more sure this is a wind up.

But, I'm giving the benefit of the doubt for the time being.

OP, what are you hoping to gain from this thread?

As I see it, you don't really want any advice, or you certainly don't want to take it on board.

We cannot say whether you will ever work or not - we can only point out things that may help.

This thread is on the verge of going round in circles - we suggest something and you ignore or dismiss it - then you add a new element every time it looks set to disappear down the page.

I think you'd happily have people do that, but what will it achieve?

What do you want to achieve?

I am studying the approved mental health professional course and we had a talk at Manchester uni from someone from there and it was an inspiration, he told us about how he manages the voices.
I wish you a good outcome

The illness that you have been describing on this thread. It was said earlier that you were highly intelligent but you are not responding in that way at all now and I think you are now playing games.

Re-read my previous post, I was not being critical of you.

You are not making much sense now. I cannot respond to your last sentence as it is incomplete.
  • Hi Bryando

Do you mind me asking what has happened each time you've been admitted and has each occasion been the result of actually being sectioned under Sect 2, 3 etc? Or were you a voluntary patient?
What sort of treament did you receive?
    How long ago was this?
Also the times you've been arrested has this been under a sect 136?
Were you not formally assessed then?

    Sorry for all the questions!

    Thanks.

There is something similar if not through this I've been given information from support worker last week. Leaflet, looks like its the local health board who run it. Awaiting an email back for meeting. Which wil be of great help.

I don't dismiss anything. Take it on board and ask questions, esp regarding the voluntary work. Which is a great idea, however have a few reservations as I said.

What you mean a wind up? As I said in my original post. I wish to go into work however have so many what I see barriers up in front I think wil just batter me so to speak. nock my confidence etc.

Adding a new element, to develop. Ask/explain myself better.

I've been sectioned by Doctors and detained by police under mental health act. Bearing mind I'm in Scotland.
Various times in hospital. Been either place of safety, assess, change medication. Had a few assessments over past few years. Not been detained in quite a while, which is good.

Accepted I will always have mental health problems, been told I will. However my problem is how it varies and the implications this will have on working. A frustrating situation, very.

I think acceptance is a crucial step tbh.

Mental illness does tend to come in cycles and you have to learn to manage that as best you can.

Ideally you need to try and get to a point where you can spot your triggers and/or early warning signs and take steps at the very earliest point to avoid a crisis.

Easier said than done, of course, but it is possible for many people and who's to say you aren't one of them.

It seems to me you haven't been on meds long enough to judge the effectiveness, or try and minimise the side effects.

The trouble with emergency admissions is the meds are aimed at reducing symptoms asap and its difficult to assess their long term benefit on that alone.

They do have side effects but some will suit you better then others and it can take many months to get the balance between manageable symptoms and tolerable side effects.

Really you need to be looking at long term support options now, while you are relatively well.
  • Bryando. Sorry you are in such a distressed place. The Hearing Voices Network might offer you an opportunity to find ways of coping with your voices. Other sources of help may be "intervoiceonline.org" which is an international site exploring alternative ways of seeing and dealing with the experience of hearing voices. Another site I'd recommend is "roncolemanvoices.com" I knew Ron some years ago when he was tormented by his voices and spending a large amount of his life medicated up to the eyeballs in hospital. You can read about his own recovery, and the inspiring extent to which he has rebuilt his life, on his site - you may find some of his background is similar to your own. (Because I'm a new MSE user I cannot post weblinks but if you type Ron Coleman and Intervoice Online in your search engine you should find them). In my experience of working in mental health for many hears, I have come to accept that the traditional responses do not help a lot of people - I hope you find something that works for you. Good luck!
