Hubby mentioned the other night he fancied a netbook.
I have found these 2:
http://www.johnlewis.com/230676456/Product.aspx
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5081897.htm
He will be using it for browsing, prob playing pogo games on, email, youtube, doesn't use bbc iplayer etc.
I'm quite computer literate but not when it comes down to the specs so would appreciate any advice, (and if you're a bloke, which would be the better colour red or the white!)
TIA

My mate who knows about these things recommends Samsung, not sure about the model number though.
Colour, for a man, if it were me I'd have black or dark blue, red or white seem a bit girlie. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
I would say the MSI wind is better. And acer isn't french.
edit: The samsung NC10 is quite a good netbook.0 -
Check that both come with a 6-cell battery. A netbook needs one.
Don't laugh at banana republics. :rotfl:
As a result of how you voted in the last three General Elections,
you'd now be better off living in one.

I have a Samsung NC10, I am using it right now. Excellent netbook.
I use it all the time instead of my desktop.
Whatever netbook you get, you will have to upgrade the RAM to 2 GB.
You really can see the difference.0 -
Thanks for the replies, off to price check the samsung - atm I think I prefer the Acer one but will see how samsung compares pricewise (why does he tell me these things AFTER I have already got loads of bits and pieces for him? lol)0

Both the ones you linked to use a 3cell battery, as previously mentioned you want a 6 cell. Take this into consideration when looking at cost.
The Samsung NC10 gets great reviews. They also now have a NC20 which has a larger screen.catch220 -
I got an NC10 in the summer. Great machine, good size keyboard and great battery life (but you MUST get the 6-cell version). Mine is in dark blue, which looks really smart, and just a bit different from the norm.
Most netbooks are a similar spec (WinXP Home, 1.66GHz Atom processor, 1GB RAM, 160GB HDD, No DC/DVD), so it is things like the quality of build, screen, keyboard and battery that make them different.
Prices are coming down - I paid £270 for it, but I have now seen them for low £200's.
Do bear in mind, they are not really a desktop replacement, or even a full laptop replacement, because the screen is small, and they are a bit under-powered. However, they work very well as a second PC, for browsing, playing music, watching DVD's basic WP, Spreadsheet work etc, and especially for travelling.0 -
I have the aspire one - I paid £119 for mine and for the price its great, but as others have said if you've got a bit more to spend go for a netbook with a 6 cell. I dont use mine unplugged so its not an issue for me.
Only negative I find with the Acer - its slower to load pages than my ASUS EEE was...but totally quick enough - faster than my works computer for example0 -
Samsung N110 is the improved NC10 - better battery life and a bigger touchpad. I got mine (and my sister's) from PC World Refurbished for £229.99 each delivered with Quidco cashback.
It's lovely0 -

Its for travelling that he wants it - we both have laptops at home but he wants a small one to take out and about at work (so he doesn't have to keep ringing me asking me to check this, that and the other on the net!)0
