What HDMI cable???
Comments
-
Ignore advice like this.
What hi-fi don't know their behind from their elbow. There is no way that a HDMI cable can alter blacks, noise (plasma PWM noise), contrast, or sharpness, it's technically impossible unless one cable is faulty (leading to sparklies and loss of image, or even no image at all).
Pop over to avforums and navigate to their 'avforums tv' section. Scroll down to the 'HDMI Event' and watch all of those 3 parts if you can handle how technical it is.

Essentially, these more expensive HDMI cables CANNOT improve picture quality. The only time investing in a better constructed cable will be beneficial is when someone is putting cables into walls or needing a long run (say to a projector). The audioholics supertest below sums it up pretty well and even joke that you could just about use silly string at under 4m with no detrimental effects :rotfl:

Say whatever you like ~ they DO make a difference and ive seen them
Your right in what you say though, they cant possibly 'improve' a picture, they can only deteriorate it
These tests dont take into consideration EMI, RFI, Crosstalk, Signal strength, equipment used etc etc etc
Ive known 1m cables completely fail. Ive seen the very obvious effects of ones that are about to fail (Flashing, serious smearing etc)
Have you do your OWN research or just following what youve read?
On top of that, whats wrong with 'trying out' a 5 pound cable??:idea:0 -
the only thing that could possibly make a difference in quality of the cable is gold connectors. i always buy gold ones but whatever the cable, ebay or playtrade is your friend.
Gold generally does nothing at all (In fact over time it usually deteriorates due to the bonding process):idea:0 -

So most cables are broken then? These tests dont take into consideration EMI, RFI, Crosstalk, Signal strength, equipment used etc etc etc??
And where are the multitude of tests to show how each of these effects the picture from a source to display via HDMI?

I have demo'd an expensive cable vs the free one I have and there was no difference. But that isn't the point!
And I suppose you have conducted a full DBT without knowing which cable is plugged in, conducted this test a number of times and used different people? All to give a definative data set showing how you can to a high % and others can verify it is fact rather than pure luck and/or the placebo effect that you can identify differences between cables.
I think you need to pop over to avforums to watch the HDMI event videos I posted above and actually listen to the facts of the matter rather than sticking your fingers in your ears and shouting 'There is a difference', unfortunately brainwashed by what hi-fis rubbish.

As its a digital format all that is required of the cable is to allow the transfer of the data with no errors. HDMI has no error correction so any errors in the data stream will be visible - sparkles, etc.
If a cheap cable transfers the data at 100% reliability then buying a more expensive cable will make NO difference.0 -
Ive no need to explain myself anymore. Ive done MY own testing. If people can only read forums then thats upto them.................:idea:0

Its subjective - you've just convinced yourself the more expensive cables are better.
Its like saying tea tastes better out of a gold plated cup. :rotfl:0 -

Thank you for providing the evidence to prove your results

People ask for help on a forum and giving them your opinion is all well and good, but misguiding them (although not intentionally) isn't particularly helpful and will most likely confuse them.0 -
Which is why ive posted a FIVE POUNDS cable
If people wish to skimp and buy a 3 quid one then thats upto them:idea:0 -
Oh come on. Its a digital signal - as long as the 0s and 1s leaving your blu-ray or whatever arrives at your TV in the same state the cable has done its job. Surely you can see that you can't get a better 0 or a better 1?0
