Next forcing people to take out credit card!!!

I'm surprised that everyone's had these problems, I don't shop in Next as I find the clothes to be badly fitting, however my boyfriend wanted a pair of those monster slippers and Next was the only place I could find them.
I wasn't going to order them as they only deliver to a home address attached to your credit/debit card  which is totally inconvenient for us as we both work, usually I get everything delivered to boyfriend's work address which every other company seems to be fine with, apart from Next, as they specify that you can't order for delivery to a work address.
Anyway, to cut a long story short, boyfriend took the week off work on leave, so I ordered them, haven't had a catalogue and the payment came out of my bank account on the same day I ordered them (which I have verified), I've had nothing saying that I have a credit account with them...**Thanks to everyone on here for hints, tips and advice!**:D

Likewise, years ago, Next opened me a credit account without asking my permission.
I was livid. Apart from the security risk, I have better things to do with my time than remember to send cheques to catalogue companies after the order (or face huge penalties and interest). If I couldn't pay with an existing card at the time of the order, they could shove it. They lost my business too.import this0 -
I know this does not solve the issue, but if you really really need to buy something, if you come into a Next store, you can order anything from the website and directory catalogue, pay totally upfront at the tillpoint, and have it either come into store to collect for free or pay £2 for next day delivery to any UK address, again paying upfront. Like I say I know it does not solve the online issue but thought it may be of help. Also instore £2 home delivery is almost half the price of the directorys home deliv charge.Ahhhh.... lemony fresh victory is mineee!!!0

I must admit mentally i'd just written you guys all off as people who hadn't been reading what they'd been clicking, but after putting through an order with Next about a year ago and it seems they did the same thing, somehow they even managed to set up me with £300 credit with a wrong DOB. Smooth...
EDIT - totally unhelpful on the phone (how can I give you my customer ID if you've never sent it to me?), but it turns out it closes itself if you go 84 days without buying anything. Mine "closed itself" 10 months on.Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0 -
I thought I would just check this out and yes, it doesnt even give you a page to avoid this and pay for your goods on CC or Debit.
Totally Unacceptable.
Wont be ordering on there EVER again.0 -
Only afterwards did I go back and properly read the T&Cs.
My own fault I know for not reading the T&Cs, but I do so much shopping online, it didn't cross my mind that it would be setting up a credit account.
Thanks. I wish more people had the good manners to admit their own mistakes like this. People who don't do this are very rude in my book.
I'm sick of the decent people who challenge such rudeness being labelled as trolls.0 -
Here's my experienced take on it
Next Retail do not have a website. They offer instore ordering from most things on the website if you take the code for free delivery to that sttore or £2 for next day and for certain items £2 for 10 day postal delivery
The Next Directory Ltd operate https://www.next.co.uk it is nothing to do with retail, you are shopping on the website of the Directory and the next retail brand is loaned to the website so therefore you must operate on the terms of the catalogue brand
You can shop without opening an account HOWEVER this must be done via the telephone and not online
You do this by calling 0844 844 8000
You will be given what appears to be a customer number however this simply acts as the transaction reference and has no relation to an account (I can understand how this might be confusing)

I also work at NEXT and would agree with the above, although I've heard on the grapevine that the policy on accounts being opened is up for change.
Cannot confirm this but I believe the bad press surrounding a watchdog report has encouraged plans for future changes.0
