Help! Talk Talk Cancellation Fee

In response to #26 - #29 success at last after more than 4 months of trouble. I wrote 2 letters to head office and eventually had a call to say that the contract breakage fee would be rescinded. More than that they have actually agreed to refund the outstanding balance they owed me. The cheque arrived in the post today. Simultaneously with this I received a final reminder to pay the fee or get a visit from the debt collectors, but the advisor assured me this will not happen. At least I now have formal agreement that the contract breakage fee should not have been levied if the debt collectors should come calling.
Just glad to put my Talk Talk experience behind me now and enjoy my so far trouble free and reasonably priced phone and broadband service from BT!0 -
I have just received a Contract Breakage fee of £83.38p from Talk Talk , i have been with the company for over 5years and this is news to me, i have moved to another provider and are getting a faster broadband etc. I have spoken to someone at TalkTalk and they have informed me that my contract expires in july2012 but surely after 5 years should i still be in a long contract?0

What have you changed in the past 12m? Something has started you on a new 12 or 18m contract. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

I'm in an almost identical situation. After switching to TalkTalk in June, I've had nothing but connection problems since. 7 Fault Free years with Orsnge, so it's not my telephone line as they keep on suggesting and want to send a $49.99 chargeable visit - I think its a scam to make money.
I too have told them I'm stopping the monthly direct debit as I'm not receiving satisfactory sevice - I have more down time than connection every day.
I wrote to them 2 weeks ago and made an official complaint. Received acknowledgement of my Notice of complaint.........nothing heard since.....untill tonight when I get an email from them advising me Line rental is going up to £13.80 on 1st October !
As I've only just commenced a 12 month contract, can they just change the terms like that ?
I'm now off to copy my complaint to Ofcom as I still have very intermittant service and TalkTalk are not doing anything about it. I suggest you also make an official complaint to Ofcom - they will, in all probability, sort things out from you. Talk Talk have (I think) 3 months to deal with our complaint. If you don't receive a satisfactory resolution, then Ofcom will step in and broker a resolution for you. Seing as you complained about the problem a long time ago, Ofcom should step straight in and help you.
Reading through the posts belwo, I believe there are alot of underhand revenue generating scams being implemented by greedy, target hungry low life with bonus blindness. The country is now afflicted by scam ridden corporations and bonus culture - this is what privatisation eventually results in..........NHS next.0 -
Yes they can increase your line rental within the minimum term, all telcoms T&C's allow this.
What tests have you carried out to ensure that your own equipment/wireless set up/wiring is not at fault? No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
MickDIYman....just discovered TalkTalk had 8 weeks to respond to your complaint with a resolution to your satisfaction.
Contact OFCOM now and log a complaint online - 15mins work - they'll take over from there and things ought to go your way - may take a few months though.

If you've been signed up for 5 years then you're on a rolling contract - after the intial contract term expired then you're free to leave at anytime without any "Early exit" fees.
My Line provider tried the same "early cancellation fee" stunt when I switched in June. When I called and asked what the charge was for, I was told because I was cancelling the line rental contract early. I asked what date my contract was due to end then?.......1 minute later the operator advised there seemed to be some sort of mistake as my contract expired in 2010. "Correct" I said.......in which case there is no fee - the invoice will be cancelled and you owe nothing - apologies for the oversight, please ignore the final demand.
Oversight.....or is everybody charged in the hope that some slip through the net and actually pay regardless ? All corporations are now practising underhand marketing & revenue genrating tactics on the basis that something can always be made from the unsuspecting or ignorant......."the sell comes first & the truth comes later"0 -

I have today contacted TT to get MAC code to change ISP. They said I need to pay cancelation fee as I signed up for new 18 month deal in may! I have no knowledge of this ever occurring and was told to write to their customers relation team to get their evidence of me agreeing to a new contract. I have not sent any correspondence to ask for a new deal so I will be interested to see what they come up with. They said it was probably a cold call from one of their sales force but I have never seen anything in writing in letter or email form detailing what I have so say signed up to. I am not happy and believe I have been missold a service I have never agreed to.0

Verbal contracts (incl. on the 'phone) are just as valid as written/signed ones.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
