Verbal contracts (incl. on the 'phone) are just as valid as written/signed ones.

However the customer should still have received some confirmation in writing of any agreement.

I am awating a transfer of BB and phone from TT to sky.

I have recieved a letter from TT saying that they have had request from another provider to transfer my services.

It does say on the bottom of this letter that if i am cancelling within the agreed period that i have to pay the termination charge and balance of the contract. As we have been with TT for over 6 years i was not worried about this.

However, when i called TT to get a mac code, i was told i didn't need one as i was getting free broadband but i have to pay £150+ as i have cancelled early, i said to the operator that not true as i have been with TT for so long, she still said that i have to pay!

Nothing was said that i recently had new or renewed a contract (which i know i have not done).

I asked her to send me the invoice so i can read.

I think i will just wait and see!

Try asking a question on the TT members forum. There admins seem very helpful and have to date responded to my threads within 24 hrs. I have got much better response so far. I have been told that they will waive my cessation fee. I am due to change over today. Lets hope it all goes well and i do not get a big bill fro TT next month. I will keep you informed.....
  • Hi,

I have been with talk talk for 5 years, I recently decided to switch to sky broadband but I have just been called by talk talk about a £110 cancellation fee because of an unfinished contract and paying seperately my monthly fee of £35. The contract was supposedly extended in september 2011. I am extremely frustrated by this and feel its extremely unfair, what can I do?
  • Hi brown,

As per my earlier posts I gave up with communications with TT customer service and found that their forum admin team was much better at getting answers to you. Best of luck!
  • I have been with Talk Talk for less than 18 months but do have an 18 month contract (apparently). I am in the process of changing to Sky, with a talk, broadband and sky tv package. Talk Talk are talking about a £70fee for cancelling the contract. I only have TT for the home phone, by broadband is currently with BT and we only have a freeview box at the mo! Is there any way of getting out of this cancellation fee, it sounds quite high? And I don't suppose that Sky will absorb this fee?
You are lucky. I am with Select Calls,I signed up in a weak moment. They want £790.33 to terminate the two home phones that I have with them, their contact number is also a premium rate number so it costs to call and discuss.
  • I was wondering if someone could help me. I have been a talk talk customer since July. Since then my service has been intermintent to the point where it stopped working at all in August. I called to complain and they sent out two engineers (one bt and one of their own) the line came back and worked ok for a day or so and started being intermitent again. I never called as I was hardly in the house to be bothered by it until this weekend when I had started to notice it getting worse and have been in my house a lot more. They had told me that if after a few checks and a wait of 48 hours the service was still the same I could call again and cancel without charge. I do this as the service is still broken and after a 3 hour phone call passed fr pillar to post they are saying that because the call in August was closed I have to wait a further 28 days of tests to be legible for fee free cancellation. This is the same problem I reported on August and they are adiment this doesn't count. I am not having to have a crap service for a further 28 days; allow another two engineers into my home and they haven't offered to refund anything at all. Where do I stand with this?

    Thanks
