Can u not get a dongle or a diff broadband? im with sky and as i have sky talk my broadband if £5 a month xxx

I will eventually be able to go with a different ISP the only problem is that because the telephone and broadband was on SLY's own LLU network they will probably delay the MAC code for as long as possible and without it I cannot get another broadband provider

incidentally the word SLY isn't a Freudian slip it is now what I prefer to call them

I have made a complaint to SLY's Head Office and posted on the SLY users forum for more info see

    Best of Luck :)

I'm sure theres a time limit that they have to provide a MAC for??? I thought the exchanges were all BT, and were being unbundled so everyone had access. Theres a site where you can check who has control of your telephone exchange, I'll try and find it.

My AOL costs £9.99, for up to 20mbs, I can only get up to 8 atm, but BT are due to unbundle our exchange this spring. I also have an orange contract dongle, again £9.99 a month for hols, but even with comping and lots of hols, I use a lot less than 1gb a month so will be shopping around for that summertime.
My light may be on, but that doesn't always mean I am looking at the PC - I am far more likely to be cuddling or feeding Tianna atm, so please don't think I am ignoring you if I don't reply quickly :)

I think that once an account has been canceled or scheduled to be deactivated a MAC code cannot be generated and so you have to start again from scratch which takes a while longer

thinking about what SLY said they did inform me about the MAC code and said that they could provide the MAC code within 2 days but I would not be able to cancel my SLY account until after the MAC code had been provided

I was in so much of a dither after being on the phone for 15 minutes with the retentions department (which is a bit like being interrogated by the gestapo and being given the third degree) that I said don't bother just cancel it now!

I will probably end up going with Plusnet at £5.99 per month as they also have a no contract option available I just hope that it is better than there dial up connection which I had many moons ago as the service was diabolical :(

I get you now, so you'll be virtually like a brand new to broadband customer. But your line will already be enabled because of Sky I would imagine, so you won't need to wait for the engineer to alter that.

As you'll be a free customer, I'd have a look at the broadband cashback options on Quidco as well. It can sometimes work out that you can get bb for free virtually when you take the cashback into account.

I will be quite happy if I'm only offline for 11 day's :)

I think that I can live with that just hope that it's not much longer ;)
