Courier spoils a surprise

  • Isn't it amazing how many posters think it's only all right to use the praise, vent and warning's board when they agree with your point. Seems too many people on MSE have forgotten the definition of the word opinion

I don't have an issue with the fact that the guy got lost and turned up at the wrong address, what I find irritating is the fact that he told what was in the package. A simple don't know would have been the sensible option.

    You were unlucky.

In my area, delivery drivers barely give you time to get to the door, never mind engage in conversation.

Might be an idea to put numbers on your houses.

LOL no vent here, its teh couriers job to deliver packages, ok so he shouldnt have discussed the contents
  • I ordered an ipod direct from Apple uk at the weekend - as it was for my husband's Christmas and to be a surprise I arranged for it to be delivered to my neighbour instead of me.

The courier came today - got a little lost on the way to my neighbours(we live in a rural area so there are no streets or house numbers) and called in at my house to ask for directions. My husband was home and whilst pointing out the neighbours house confirmed the surname - of course the courier said it was for a Mrs X, c/o the address - to which my husband said it was for me, not my neighbour and he would just take it and then added what was it anyway to which the courier informed him it was an Ipod and he had delivered loads today - so no Christmas surprise and hubby says I may as well just give him it now:mad:

If you happen to be a courier or a delivery driver and someone asks you what's in a parcel please plead ignorance and don't spoil things.

...or maybe Hubby should have wound his neck in and left well alone? Works both ways.....
  • Surely the courier should have delivered it to the address on the parcel?! If I'd stopped for directions and the person said oh don't worry that's for me so leave it here I would refuse!

Most couriers will leave a parcel with a neighbour as long as they sign for it.

    gah ,thats annoying !!
Still you were pretty lucky ,he could have returned it to base as undeliverable and there it would have sat gathering dust in a warehouse and you cant do anything or put in a claim till 90 days are up ,then it would have been too late for xmas ...
  • hubby says I may as well just give him it now:mad:

No, give it to him at Christmas!! He would've had to wait for xmas anyway, and he should wait for it now for being nosy, asking what was in the parcel with your name on it!! ;) Maybe get him some docking speakers/other ipod gadget for a surprise instead.

I do think maybe it was a slip up, but the courier should have known better really. It's the run up to xmas and the parcel had MRS on it, not MR. Common sense really!! A lot of people are going to be miffed this year if he's giving away the contents of parcels to everyone who asks!!
