Courier spoils a surprise

I ordered an ipod direct from Apple uk at the weekend - as it was for my husband's Christmas and to be a surprise I arranged for it to be delivered to my neighbour instead of me.
The courier came today - got a little lost on the way to my neighbours(we live in a rural area so there are no streets or house numbers) and called in at my house to ask for directions. My husband was home and whilst pointing out the neighbours house confirmed the surname - of course the courier said it was for a Mrs X, c/o the address - to which my husband said it was for me, not my neighbour and he would just take it and then added what was it anyway to which the courier informed him it was an Ipod and he had delivered loads today - so no Christmas surprise and hubby says I may as well just give him it now:mad:
If you happen to be a courier or a delivery driver and someone asks you what's in a parcel please plead ignorance and don't spoil things.

It's just one of those unfortunate coincidental accidents, nothing to get mad about0 -
agreed. As far as courier knew you could have ordered it to a neighbours in case you weren't in.0

I know it's annoying but sadly as previous posters have said it's just one of those things.
Courier wasn't to know it was intended as a gift for the guy he was handing it over to.

Jeez but sorry, give the Courier a break. Isn't their job hard enough without you asking them to keep a secret they don't even know exists?
Next time, have it delivered to your place of work or have it delivered to collect from the local Post Office.
Very naughty of you to blame someone else who did their job to the best of their ability. Sorry, but shame on you!Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
Surely it's the couriers job to deliver and hand over a parcel ~ not tell whoever they hand it to, what is in it.
I would have been annoyed too OP.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
Must admit I'd be a bit disappointed too but it doen't sound like it was done out of malice, seems he was drawn into a conversation when he was looking for the address and it just slipped out.
I reckon the courier would have a boring job if he just handed the parcel over without making a bit of small talk and he probably didn't think!0 -
How did he know it was an ipod? Did it say what the contents of the parcel is on his paperwork?
Forgive me if i'm wrong but doesn't Apple UK sell things other than Ipods such as speakers and accessories? And if he does know the contents it was addressed to Mrs X therefore shouldn't say to anyone what is in the package, not even to Mrs X.If At First You Don't Succeed, Call It Version 1.00 -

Don't know - is it?
Can honestly say I've never given it much thought, but without wanting to offend anyone, what's hard about it exactly? "Hi, sign here please". I'm not exactly great in social situations, but I reckon even I'd have a go at it...Debt_Free_Chick wrote: »Very naughty of you to blame someone else who did their job to the best of their ability. I'm fairly sure it's not appropriate for couriers to discuss the contents of the packages with anyone but the recipient - and even then it's shakey ground.
This "to the best of their ability" thing is a bit of a cop out, tbh. So, a chef gives you food poisoning...is that "shame on you! he tried his best..." - how about the surgeon that replaces your kidney with a jacket potato "well, I'm sure he tried his hardest...." it just doesn't wash. People have jobs to do, they should be trained and able to do them.
OP - perhaps in future you should just tell your OH when you order a present - that way they can know to try and avoid finding out what it is...0 -
OP - If you wanted it to be a surprise, then you should have gone and bought it from a shop instead.Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £26,322.670
