Everything in moderation, I've been told very similar opinions on useing the internet daily, however the internet has its pros and cons, just like tv.0

No Amos I dont entirely agree with you. Yes there are a lot of junk programmes on tv but at the moment I am watching an excellent informative programme on bbc2, 5 Disasters Waiting to Happen, which you might find depressing but it is a warning about climate change. There are excellent programmes on tiv such as horizon, and other documentaries, there are dramas, films, programmes like Grand Designs. It is not all junk by all means you just have to be a bit discerning.amosworks wrote:You know, you lot could stop watching television!
I watch 15 mins of junk TV a week and even that sends me in to society is royally !!!!ed up overdrive. Also I don't watch the news, and I am such a happier person for cutting that artificially but deliberately constructed depressive material out of my life. Even soap operas carry the same messages as the adverts do, so don't watch them either.
Instead, why not get off your fat !!!!ing !!!!!!, do some houework, write the family member it's been longest since you spoke to, starst your own business, do some exercise, learn a new skill or ANYTHING else constructive.
To me, when people say they watch TV, I see them trapped in a fake mind controlling world, just as you see non-DFW's stuck on a hamster wheel that leads to nowhere.
TV destroys lives and society. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0 -
Incidentally I hate that picture loan ad too. It makes out that the picture loan people are really kind and they sort out all your worries for you and he helps his friend by introducing him to them as if hes a best mate doing him a great favour. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0

I think the worst thing about the loan ads is that it has made having consolidation loans acceptable, even actually positive. The 'lump it all together and add a holiday on top' attitude makes it all seem ok.
That bloke from the Picture ads winds me up as well. Not sure if it is the product or the stupid smug look on his face..... second only to the woman on the Ocean Finance ads of a year ago, who sat on her sofa saying she had manged to consolidate 27 seperate secured and unsecured debts. 27 debts, jeez.....

All I can say is....it's not just you Katharine! Not by a long chalk.
I don't watch a lot of tv these days so I miss a lot of the adverts anyway but I do get totally sick of people 'keeping up with the Jones' and bragging about their new plasma tv etc etc.
I'm like "So....what? Tell me you've spent £1000 on building a well in Africa and I might be impressed..."Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.

Credit cards: AMEX Airmiles Card: direct debit set to clear balance monthly

I don't watch much TV either but it is nice to sit down and just spend a little time in front of it now and then, although i am normally making cards, stitching or making menus or budgeting at the same time, i am one of those people always doing at least two things at once.
Anyway i hated those adverts before my LB moment because they just kept reminding me of my situation which just depressed me so i would avoid them as much as possible.
Now they make me angry because they are on every five seconds, ok exaggeration but you know what i mean, they are aimed at those who really are so down and vunerable and see no other way out.
Instead of shouting at them though i am always getting laughed at for saying what has become my catchphrase which is.........What those people really need to do is to go to Martins website:rotfl:
I have also used them to teach my eldest how they are not the solution they seem, even she watched the CC advert which says how life became better when he said yes and her response was, may be better now but wait until he gets the statement the next month and realises he will spend the rest of the year paying it off:D
Lets hope she remembers all this when she is old enough to be offered one;)Success means having to worry about every thing in the world......EXCEPT MONEY. Johnny Cash

Theres a new advert about a shop called bright ideas I think that got me wound up. It actually says that you can get credit even if you have been refused elsewhere etc. Then shows you things like sofa's and a new pc. Again targeting the people that are already in debt and need to get more debt to buy things they want, not necessarily need.0
