Am I the only one?

That gets really annoyed by all the adverts with slogans like 'make tomorrow toady', or 'lower your monthly payments'. Also people saying things like 'you only live once', 'I'm incapable of saving so I'll get a loan and pay for it later'. It really doesn't help society for it to be so easy and socially acceptable to buy things you can't afford. Debt really isan't fun, I should know!

I also really dont understand why anyone needs a NEW car, why, why, why? I've been silly in the past too, buying things I don't really need, but this is just utter madness. Maybe I just have DFW tinted glasses?

I hope you understand what I mean, I just needed a rant. I'm not knocking anyone here, at least we wont make the same mistake again. :T

Yeah, it's adverts like that and the attitude of banks etc that influence so many young people to take out credit that they can't afford. (Although most don't realise they can't afford it at the time.)

    They drive me nuts now.

Hehe I really hope not, but people just don't want to even consider that it might not be a good idea, I give up luckily for my own sanity. :)

Up until the last few years there where never any of these loan companies adverts on TV.

But they know that people are sinking in debt and like loosing weight want a quick and easy solution.

I think that picture loan company one drives me made. He walks around the house talking about football. And saying that was easy.

People don't see it as such but they stealing from there future by being in debt and keep taking out loans to feed the debt.

They say there is pension crisis well of course there is. People are just not saving like they use to. People fritter away money on items that are parents did not have the chance to buy. But now it is seen as norm to buy a virtually brand new car once you pass your test at 17. And pay for it with a loan.

To be thousands in debt by going through uni. And then finding after all your hard work you can't get a job paying more than £15K a year.

This country is a mess. And finance companies are preying on the weak and the financial illiterates.

We are becoming a two tier country with the haves and have nots. And I am not talking about consumer goods but the access to the internet. With out the internet and you being able to have access I am sure that a lot of the DFW's would still be struggling along. But be able to meet like minded people who encourage them. They are finding it is easier then ever to get a grip on there finances and get one over on the banks.

Personally those loan companies adverts should be banned. As they irrtate me. I want to smash the screen in when they say it was so easy they really helpful. Of course they where they want your money.

Just glad that I can only see TV when I go up my mums once or twice a week. So there are some saving graces to not having a tv :rotfl:

calleyw, what you say is absolutely right!!

'stealing from your future self', I have never actually thougt about it that way, but you are.

I, like the others on this thread, am like a woman posessed since i found this forum. I'm searching every day to find pennies to throw at my debt, don't even turn my tv on now for the amount of debt adverts that are on during the day and try to convert every one i speak to to become a dfw. my mum in america was getting the speech this morning as we've been trying to sort out her credit card debt (she's not in too much dire straits and she earns a decent wage). I want her to be debt free soon, so that she can enjoy her money more. the same i want for myself.

No I'm with you but am very aware that I need to be careful not to bore the pants of people with my DFW envangelism! Hard when you've seen the light but also need to respect that while we obviously know better now that people have to have their own lightbulb moments! Have managed to (almost!) conver someone!! Made them a saving pig (silver & called "boinkers"!!) and she has started looking for cheaper deals!! One down.....! As for the loan adverts that make me fizzle...I shout at the telly like a woman demented - great form of anger management tho!!
