i contacted the sma careline who told me that basically the only way that i can get the wysoy in liquid form is to try and obtain it from another hospital before i have the baby, and that if i explain the situation they may be willing to help me.

When i asked about the LF she said that it has only been around for the past 3years and many doctors prefer to use this now rather than wysoy. LF is designed for babies that are lactose intolerant and the wysoy is designed for babies that are intolerant not just to the lactose but also the protein in cows milk. LF is also available on prescription but SMA only do it in powder form not liquid at all not even supplying it to hospitals.

The only advice she really gave me as to what to do in my situation was trial and error with the different milks to see what happens. Not the ideal solution but could be one of the only ways of getting round it at the moment.

I tried calling the NCT but all there lines were busy but have left a message and someone is going to call me back.

At the moment i think what i may do is get the different milks and keep them at home, try breastfeeding while im in the hospital and see how she goes and then do the trial and error at home.

i'm sure the birth will be like shelling peas and you'll be home and jumping about within minutes of the birth :D

the average hospital stay after birth isn't very long, probably less than a day. hopefully everything will go smoothly and you can go home to do what you want with the support of your family

i sure do hope so! thanks hun! the only thing that is concerning me is if my baby doesnt feed coz im breastfeeding are they going to let me home? Its not like they keep formula milk in the hospital for any reason so what would happen then? I can seriously see me discharging myself and my baby if it does happen

it might vary from hospital to hospital but as far as i could tell when i had roo they only needed to see one feed, and most babies can manage that - it's afterwards that they react to the lactose, poor things. they don't weigh our babies until they are ten days old so they let them go home from hospital without knowing how much weight they have lost since birth. if you're feeling okay you could maybe go home after the first feed. i don't know the minimum time but i got onto the ward at around 10pm with roo and another girl arrived minutes afterwards. before the ward had opened she had her husband banging on the doors demanding to let her go home, this was at 7am before breakfast. the girl who came to take her place at breakfast was home before bedtime too. i'd made friends with the girl opposite while we were being induced for a few days, we both had our waters popped at the same time but her labour was 27 hours, mine only 3. they put her opposite me when she came to the ward, so that was 3 people in the bed in only 24 hours lol!

there was a consultant checking the babies before they left. the couple who were demanding to leave early had one called in for them i think. what happens if you have a home birth? i'm assuming you take the baby to a gp or something for a check, they don't get a consultant out to your house do they?

they were turfing us onto the ward as quickly as they could, with 4 or 5 women in labour for each midwife they didn't have time to be looking after people who had given birth. they were very speedy at giving me tea and toast, running me a bath and hauling me out only minutes after i'd got in (i was daft, i wasted time mopping up all the blood that poured out while i walked the long trek to the bathroom). the ward were cross because they were in such a hurry to get us out of delivery and onto maternity they didn't even put any tags on my baby  if my husband hadn't stayed with him the whole time he could have been anyone's :rotfl:

they forgot to stitch you?! that sounds like an awful experience, poor you *HUG*

they gave me the option of being stitched or not, with emphasis on the 'not' :rotfl:

on the desperate midwives programme (based in derby i think) they had a whiteboard, like the board they use in ER with patient names etc. but i don't know if all delivery wards use them.

it might be worth paying the extortionate rates for a phone card, and calling relatives from your bedside. that's what we did. i carried on screaming for quite a while and i refused to let go of the entonox. i was on a drip and it just intensifies contractions, they carry on afterwards, i was in a lot of pain. my husband was holding the baby and chatting to him, while i screamed for a bit. he phoned relatives on the phone at the bedside, when i'd shut up a bit :D

fresh air is something you can't get though, if there is a window it will be locked :-(

if possible, try to have baby at a convenient time of day lol! midwife changeover/maternity ward chucking out visitors is a bad time, silly of you :D
