So I went back to Specsavers and had an eye test, then asked about replacement Sola One HD new lenses in my existing Specsaver frames. Cost....£198
But I could have two new frames, one with the Sola One HD lenses, one with single vision lenses for....£170.25
HUH.....Tried several times to get an explanation!!! Ended up confused and bought nothing.0 -
Hi, wasn't given a proper quote, just verbal and when I asked for an explanation the prices were written on a scrap of paper.
The lenses only was £198 and by buying a pair of £69 frames got two pairs for £170.25. No idea where the prices came from. Got 25% off the frames as I am now a pensioner.
Still confused and using my old glasses!0 -
Thanks for that. One reason that I didn't go for it was the lack of choice in frames, Lots on display but they were all the same basic shape with very narrow lenses which I have found to my cost are not suitable for varifocals.
The branch of Specsavers is in Marshals Yard, Gainsborough.0 -
All Specsavers lenses are Pentax approved! I'm a lab technician for Specsavers, the Sola One HDV which is now called Pentax HDV is the best varifocal for clarity. The Pentax Independence is also in the same category as the Pentax HDV. It was available before HDV came onto the market so that could be the reason you weren't offered HDV varifocals....It may not have been available at the time.0

Thanks, the quote was in April this year, I was told it was for Sola One HD lenses. We are in France for the season now so will have another look when we return in the autumn. Thinking of going for laser treatment! It isn't any dearer, over a few years, than getting the good lenses.0

I work for a large multinational company who supplies me with safety glasses thru specsavers. Previously it was an optician of my own choice. I recently ordered a new pair, when they came the lenses were 8mm thick. I complained that this was too much, whereby I was told it was my prescription, even though my existing glasses(same prescription) were only half the thickness. Next excuse was"not enough vouchers supplied". They then aggreed to re make the lenses-in fact all they did was polish the edges.
i agreed to try the lenses only to find I could not meet the eyesight standard reqd for driving whilst wearing them, although I have never had that problem before or since. I was told by the salesperson "MR E******* your eyesight is documented, we have been in touch with your works & your glasses are correct-how good do you want to see????" I asked the address of the head office only to be told "you have to complain here". I am in my early 60's, having worn glasses as long as I remember, never had bother before with my glasses-bought safety glasses myself from an independant optician & been very satisfied. WELL DONE Specsavers-your useless glasses reside in a drawer, never to be used. UTTER RUBBISH0 -
My varifocal glasses have been dispensed by my local optician for many years at a cost of around £240 & have always been excellent. I saw a pair of frames I liked in Specsavers & as I was due another eye test elected to have one there & then.I was given a very thorough eye examination & treated with respect by a very pleasant optician. The frames were £69 & were supplied with free Pentax varifocal lenses. The frames are of excellent quality & vision with the basic Pentax varifocals is excellent. I have nothing but praise for the staff at this very busy branch which is incidentally at Washington, Tyne & Wear. I know where I'll be going for my next pair of Specs!0

My OH and myself had varifocals made by Specsavers 2 months ago. Absolute crap. I wear mine as needs must but the fogging round the edges is bad. She doesn't wear hers much. I won't be going there again.0

I have my 1st pair of varifocals from Specasavers. i went for the best quality version and I haven't had any problem with fogging at all. however i do still just tend to take them off for close up reading just as I did with the previous single lens glasses.0 -

So that's defeated the object of having Varis then?Beware the character seeking personal gain masquerading as a moral crusader.
